Mazukov, you are partially right about other name. But, name as throne room, for my understanding latest modern books reference movement. Original name, according to Vilchkovsky - "the Great Hall".



But sorry, I do not recollect any ballroom at Catherine Palace.

The Catherine Palace never had a real ballroom. These rooms were used for dining, and other entertainments, also as a Ballroom. The Palace also did not have a main staircase until the mid 19th century.
