Thank you all for your detailled informantion. It really seems that Vincenz wasn't always happy and often lived a alone on his castle: The text-link posted by Eric says a lot (even when I do not know, how much newspapers also might phantasize). It also seems that he was not heathly as Maximiliano says, does anyone know why he was that often in hospital? It's also strange that his wife was not in the death notice, as it was said here. Maybe there were greater conflicts for the couple. We don't know. A pity.
However I wish a happy and good future for his two daughters, it will surely be hard for them.

It's really interesting that a lot of descendants of Karl I. - especially Dr. Otto Habsburg - love to begin their sentences with "Sehen Sie ...". ;-)

Lucien, have you heard the reason for this auction?

I doubt they need the money :), maybe just cleaning out the castle?

Wasn't there some dispute about  some family jewels, whether they should be split up in the family or sold?  Looking at this a bit all I saw was furnishings, no jewels.  I want those 17th century globes myself!

Call it a luxury yard sale. The family just has too much stuff and doesn't know where to put it,that is all.
Not that they are in trouble funds wise, they are among europes billionaires, euro billionaires that is ofcourse........ ;)

The jewellery,I think you're mixed up with Luxembourg as they had a slight problem with selling Grand Duchess Josephine-Charlotte's jewelry.
In the end,that didn't happen.

Thanks.

I had a suspicion I had the jewels part mixed up, just curious.

Some yard sale!  Wife and I are thinking of having a good Midwestern garage sale this spring to clean out some stuff also.  Just a tad downscale from this perhaps. ;)

BTW, since the Lichtensteiners are so low key seriously wealthy, do they contribute anything seriously to charity that is known publicly?

yes they give a lot to charity ...look up their site. HSH Pr Hans Adam II is one of the great art collectors of the age and is just "clearing the decks" so that he can add items of finer quality to the collection

On this auction, there are plenty of things from former castles of Liechtensteins in Czech republic, mainly form Feldsberg and Eisgrub.

The auction is still on its way, running way over time as it already is 19.30PM local time, and we already have a huge success here as with 130 lots to go there already is a turnover of 4.6 million euro, instead of the expected 2.6 from the whole auction.

Wonderful Items in the Auction. It would be interesting to know who some of the major Purchasers were!

By the way is there a link on the Liechtenstein jewels of the family? Crown Jewels? anything like that.....

As far as I know Hedwig's engagement was announced in December 2006. Her fiancé is Comte Olivier de Quélen, son of Jean-Louis, Comte de Quélen and his wife, née Antoinette de Madre de Loos.

Hedwig Maria Beatrice Hermine (born Vienna 28 Nov 1982) married Olivier de Quélen (born Paris 25 Apr 1980) at Schloß Waldstein on 10 May 2008.

Thank you for the announcement!

I hope that they will be a happy couple and can create a family on their own. I hope she has found a way to live with the thought of the early death of her father, maybe with good memories in her mind....
