You're right, Keith -- she would always be addressed as HM -- she hasn't been an HRH since 1952.  Surely that is not in the film?  That would be a real clanger, if so.  :o

I don't think she's called HRH in the film, I'm sure I would've noticed. She's almost always called 'Ma'am'.

Sorry, didn't mean to cause confusion, it was just the reviewer using HRH everytime he referred to the Queen.

Thanks to Viscount for posting a copy of Landseer's 'Monarch of the Glen'.

Interestingly Landseer's red stag is a 'royal' - its antlers have 12 points.   The stag in the film was an 'imperial' with fourteen points to his antlers.

This sequence was not based on fact.   It was based on a piece of brilliant inspiration on the part of the director.   It is the resolution borne of this scene which holds the most powerful of analagies.

I went to see "The Queen" this afternoon at the one theater where it is showing in the Metro DC area.  It was sold out for the rest of the day!  I'll go on line next time and get the tickets there.  How strange it is that such a good film is only at one theater in the entire national capital area.

This film was initially made for television.    That could account for the distribution.

I think it was Helen Mirren's brilliant portrayal of HM the Queen which catapulted this film not only into feature film status, but to become a potential Oscar nominee - even winner.

Well, I made to to the theater yesterday.  It was almost full, but I did buy my ticket on line.

Simply put, Dame Helen IS The Queen!  Her performance was excellent.  She walked, talked and conveyed the Queen's personality very well.

I thought that the Queen Mother was also played very well.  Since she was 97 when Diana died, she was in decline.  Even the slight angle of her head was down, as it was with the QM.  She also provided great humor.

I liked Tony Blair's rebuttal to his speech-writer.  I thought that it really showed Blair's growing respect and understanding for HM.

Unfortunately this movie is still only showing in very few locations on the East Coast, one theater in NYC, one in Philadelphia, and one in North NJ... I don't know if it will be shown in any more theaters later. Unless I decide to go to Philly to see it - which I may, I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD!  :(

It could well be worth the journey, Helen.   Unfortunately the full impact will be lost when not viewed on the big screen, in fact I think it might even be disappointing.

Yes, I agree. I am not very far from Philly at all, only about 35 miles, but parking there is such a pain! This is why I am hoping that it will come to the more local theaters soon... But if not, I think I will take the drive, because as you say, it would be worth seeing it on the bog screen.

I would love to see this.  I just checked and it's not playing anywhere in the Kansas City area.  I guess I will have to wait until it comes out on DVD.
