Guinastasia, wish we could bring back those folks so you could tell them off in person. (Though, like you, I give credit to King Alfonso for making a genuine effort to save the Romanovs when others declined to do so.) And I would love to be there, applauding and adding in more than a few whoo-hoos! Plus throwing tubs of putrid fruit at loser boy King Carol II and sending King Leopold off to exceptionally hard labor in the country he so horribly mutilated. I'd also like to send a major kick in backside to Marie Pavlovna the Elder for giving birth to and supporting three irresponsible and generally worthless sons.

Well, I seem to recall that of the three, Grand Duke Andre wasn't so bad.  Yes, he had a long time affair with Little K, but he acknowledged her son as his own and married her soon after the Revolution. 

Kyril and Boris, however?  Ew.

Actually, Nicholas, Alexandra and Alexander of Yugoslavia are three of my favorites.

Now then, more hated royals? 

I'm not too keen on Princess Anne, for some reason.  I don't know, she just strikes me as a very unpleasant person.

Emperor Maximillian of Mexico, for the way he treated poor Charlotte-infecting her with a venereal disease.  Ugh.

Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria-word is that he was a miserable, selfish person to everyone around him. 

Prince Charles, Duke of Coburg.  Prince Leopold's son, who later joined the Nazis.  Jerk.

And even though I don't HATE her, I'm angry at Catherine the Great for chopping up Poland. 

ETA: Oh, and even though he's not a royal, may I please tack on Oliver Cromwell, for his treatment of the Irish?

Now what exactly is personal about my comments? I addressed you under your pseudonym. That means that I addressed someone writing under an assumed identity. I on the other hand write under my own name and am personally known to many people on this forum. We are not in the same league.

I realise that this forum is full of people who who mistakenly hold Nikolai and Aleksandra in high esteem and who condemn the Vladimirovichi because they were in better touch with reallity. Just the same I do not give up on everyone simply because they hold to inaccurate views but instead I try to educate them to the error of their ways.

Unlike yourself, Mr Pritchard, neither Nicholas or Alexandra could be considered 'pompous'.  Many epithets have been atached to them, but this is not one.

Perhaps it is because if this, rather dubious, qualitiy you find the Grand Duchess Vladimir, and her spouse, attractive personalities.

I am sure you do not mean to come across as being either pompous or patronising, but sadly there is no other way to either describe or interpret your posts here.   Pseudonym or not, Guinastasia is due an apology.

Oh, absolutely, no arguments there.  However, Gisela was raised in the same manner and I believe it's been said that she was a very sweet, gracious person. 

In Sissi's defense, I think she was bipolar or at least suffered mental illness-didn't she?  Either way, I don't exactly admire her, because I wouldn't want her as a mother, but she is fascinating.

Gisela was lucky to have a light-hearted outlook on life. Rudolf was much more sensative and felt his mother's distance to him much more to heart. Yet he cannot but admire her as a goddess and jealous of any man who fell for her. Very Odepius...

No...I think given the chance, Sisi could have been a better mother. The example was Marie Valerie ("Her only"). I think in this she was showing the world how devoted she was and capable of as a mother. The rest were taken away by Archduchess Sophie. Sisi considered them her creatures of her mother-in-law. A pity to Rudolf...

Carol II might have been reckless and selfish, but he was not the greedy, cruel monster that Leopold II was by any means.
