Not to verge too far off topic, but the relationship between GVI and Lady Loughborough is interesting. She married in 1915 (when the future King was about 20) and wasn't divorced until he was married. Did they have the relationship during her marriage or when he was very young? Interesting, she would go on to marry Dimitri Alexandrovitch Romanoff--the son of George V's cousin Xenia and Grand Duke Alexander. Her first husband, son of the Earl of Rosslyn, was the grandnephew of Lady Sybil St Clair Erskine former lover of GVI's uncle Eddy. Sybil's son was a great friend (and I think, best man) at the wedding of Bertie's cousin George Milford-Haven.

Modify--never mind, I saw that he became involved with her in 1919. David said that the King was going to try and lure him away from her with a Dukedom but that he, David, would remain unshakeable with his ladylove.

In case you hadn't seen it online, there is now a Facebook page named "Support Prince Harry With A Naked Salute", with some 17,000 serving soldiers from around the globe (and non soldiers too!) joining and posting photos of themselves saluting while naked (with bits covered up by guns, helmets and other props).  Seems the prince has some strong support among the serving men and women, and I think it's fantastic!

That's probably because a number of military men know something about cutting loose and having a good time. They're probably just appreciative of the fact that no one cares to try and capture their wilder behavior and then sell the images to the gossip sites and newspapers.

The idiot is the a hole who made and sold the pics,nothing more,nothing less.The Brits take lightly to this whole ado over a cute tasty butt and on facebook there's a page in support of the Prince by men and women of the Forces,British as well as abroad "Support Prince Harry with a nude pic" !We don't deal with false shame and a "oh I'm so prude" nonsense...and then be the first in line when it comes to it..No,Harry could have demanded his.what,entourage,to leave their mobiles and what not at the door.Simple.but oh well,thank goodness there were no mobiles and other nonsense during Edward the Caressor's days...Man...papers would have gone over the top over him and his well-healed society whores...but alas...these days are over...

We're going to have to agree to differ on this one. As I've said above, in an ideal world what a person does in a hotel room should stay private. But in this modern world it's unlikely to, and in failing to take basic and sensible steps to avoid embarrassment to his service he has shown a serious lack of judgement. I have absolutely no time for the people who took the pictures, still less for those who were probably well paid for putting them on the internet. But if you leave your bike in the street and can't be bothered to chain it up, you cannot really complain when it isn't there when you come back to it.

I wasn't going to comment any further on Prince Harry's latest problems - I've said my bit and the whole subject's getting a bit boring now, but I did see the soldiers getting naked in "support" of Harry on the Daily Mail website.  I just couldn't get over them!

Do we now find it admirable and funny that male and female soldiers strip off their uniforms or part of their uniforms and pose naked or semi-naked in front of the flags of their countries in "support" of someone who doesn't need support at all but simply a good rap for his idiotic behaviour?

I just can't understand how anyone can think this is acceptable, let alone good!

I don't excuse Harry but I'll reserve the bulk of my contempt for those skanks who saw him as a chance to make a quick buck regardless of the embarrassment. I would be so proud if I were their parents. I do think Harry is getting too long in the tooth for this behavior but he was in a private room doing nothing illegal. He didn't strip naked and run down the streets of Vegas. I'm sure this will be a huge lesson which will prompt him to start acting more responsibly and also have the effect of making his royal world even more insular. No wonder royals stick to the same groups for seeming generations. It must be horrible to think anyone and everyone would sell you out for a buck.

We read about the numerous affairs--with males and females--as well as the drug abuse of George, Duke of Kent. I wonder how much would've been publicized if the lack of a sense of discretion combined with greed combined with cellphone cameras and the internet would've been around back then. I'm sure some nude (or at least very risque) parties went on back in the 20s and 30s but there wouldn't have been photos or tattle-taling about it.

Of course, the gossip here in the States is that someone is shopping around a tape. The tape is alleged to have a) more nude behavior and b) possible drug use. Harry isn't supposed to be on film doing drugs but rather others were and he was in the room.

If true, then this IS potentially serious as far as the services are concerned. Not only is there a zero-tolerance policy for drug use (backed by random testing and 'administrative discharge' if you're caught, but being around people who take drugs is seen as putting serious question marks on a person's judgement. I used to be involved in interviewing candidates for the University Air Squadron and one of the questions which was required to be asked of them (and anyone seeking to join the services) was whether they had ever knowingly been in a situation where drugs were being taken around them.

I'm seeing my old fashioned military father next week and will ask him what he thinks. Mind you, when this very proper old boy was Harry's age he was banned for life from the Grosvenor Hotel in Chester! His unit was being disbanded, the officers held a wake in the Grosvenor Hotel and some of them started to chuck the furniture about. The whole lot were banned for life, and it is a family joke that my father can never dare go in there.

Grin...Funny you bring the bikes up Ann...Living  here in Amsterdam means you can chain your bike up as much as you want but "they" still find a way to get it out and away regardless the chains and you'll find it gone in spite of all precautions..grin....

My husband managed to have 3 bikes stolen when he in college. He just gave up and took the University bus or walked! LOL
