It came to as a shock to me too when i heard it :o....Olga seemed tough to me at first but her depression showed another weaker/vulnerable side to her.

In 1906 Stolypin survived a bomb attack on his home. His daughter was very badly wounded however.

Alix was quite glad to see the back of Stolypin, as she had always distrusted him. However she was not to keen on the manner of his exit!

People in the boards have said that olga had locked herself in a corner and vomited in a towel, that she took arsenic...so it was pretty bad.

The vomit-in-the-closet incident likely had to do with the stress of nursing the wounded -- it's said to have happened at the lazaret, though the folks involved in the discussion on the Olga boards haven't been able to locate a source to actually document the story. It was a common reaction among novice nurses, so it's entirely possible.

I believe arsenic was taken as a remedy for anemia or melancholy. (Not as a poison!)

Please keep this thread about the murder of Stolypin. If you wish to discuss other things, start a new thread.  The murder of Stolypin was a huge shock to Alexandra, who's illness took a turn for the worse immediately afterward.

I'm one of the posters who believes she saw a reference to Olga retreating into the linen closet and vomiting into a towel. Since that time I have been unable to find the reference. Given Olga's sensibilities and the nature of the work she, her mother and sister were exposed to, I think it highly probable such a thing could have happened; nonetheless, until it can be documented I would not want to say that it did.

If I recall correctly--someone verify this, please?!--Alexandra mentions Olga taking arsenic in the course of her correspondence to Nicholas . . . NOT as poison, but what was at the time thought as a curative for anemia and the resultant physical/emotional lethargy, as Sarushka mentions.

As for what Tatiana and Olga saw, you have to remember that the longer we live, and unless we live very sheltered lives, we are likely to witness sad, possibly horrifying things. Particularly when the world is volatile, as it was then and as it is now.

P.S. Sorry FA, only just now saw your post!

It seems to me that Olga and Tatiana have been the strongest to put up with what they did. Such as seeing someone get shot, working as nurses and seeing the horror of the war, plus beeing held captive and being treated horribly. I wouldnt know what i would do after going through all that. For me it shows how strong they both are to have faced all of that.

Well, apart from working as nurses during wartime, which would require considerable stamina, especially mental, the other events in the Grand Duchesses lives listed here were not really a proof of their "strength" but rather circumstances beyond their control which they had to deal with, unfortunately.

It was not a specific opera. It was a gala performance with a mixed program of music. I do not have the complete evening's program, perhaps someone else does.

I'd always believed it was Glinka's "A Life for the Tsar". Maybe it was exerpts from this opera, though... :-\

Something to add: Tatiana also saw her Father shot on July 17, 1918, of course. This shocked her the most!

Amazing colored fotos  by the most wonderful Yelena Aleksandrovna. Endless thank you very much!

She saw her whole family die. I think that's really sad.
