To my knowledge, I've only seen one photo of Anastasia with her hair up, and I do think it quite suited her.

I tend to agree with this. But as Holly pointed out we really don't have enough photos to go by in order to judge. Still I think Anastasia's "look" would have translated more seamlessly from hair down mid-teen to 1920s flapper :-)

No worries. I wish there were more pictures of Anastasia with her hair up as well. It's interesting how they all had their own, slightly different ways of putting their hair up.

Yes, each had her own beauty , and each had her own way of putting her hair up. Looking at photos of Anastasia with her hair up, it's so funny, because it's so grown-up. Before, she had very often her hair dishevelled in informal photos.

It was taken on July of 1915, Nicholas' diary confirms, he mentions visiting Ropsha on 5th, 12th, 15th, 19th and 30th of July. ( on Aleksei's 11th birthday.)
I'd say that it was taken either on 19th or 5th, since only then NII mentions Sablin, Maria, Anastasia and Alexei, but it was most likely taken on 19th July 1915 (Sunday).  He also mentions their delight when they saw the sea, walking along the sand, swimming and they obligatorily measured temperature of the water, which was 19 degrees of Celsius' scale on July 5th, when they first visited Ropsha.
In the photo, we see NII, MAA and Sablin.

Always obviously so with Marie, but Anastasia too as a 15-17 year old showed great signs of what she to become had destiny allowed for it.

I'm afraid I can't see that. If any of the daughters had survived to experience WWII they would have been no longer young, and unlikely to be living in Russia. Perhaps married to non-Russian European royalty, so more likely to be organizing things than actually nursing. And conceivably on different sides of the conflict, as well. Who can say?
