I personally believe (on gut instinct only) that Phillip told Charles, "marry her or break up with her and move on to the next virgin suitable to be the next Queen Consort of England", because the Royal Family could not take much more of the press coverage.  Little did they know or suspect it would only get worse.

I think Charles learn from that and most likely did not push Kate on to William. He has to make up his mind on his own.  ;)

Well, it is rumoured that it was indeed Charles who requested William to consider his intentions towards Kate.  Sounds a bit like history repeating itself, except that William at least seems to have the ability to consider his feelings and make a decision that he thinks is right for him - at least at that time........

As far as embarassing connections go, the Windsors themselves are hardly free of those are they?  I don't know too much about Kate's mother but I suspect that she wants the best for her daughter (not a bad thing in itself) and it is very easy to cast her in the role of 'pushy mother'.  Her social origins are really neither here nor there.............

... and knowing that marrying age in the UK is 16, now not only could it get a lot, lot worse - this could prove very difficult - even, impossible.

Whatever her mother's start in life, this really should have no bearing on Kate's future.

Birth is an accident; talent and achievement are the yardsticks by which one should be measured.

As Tina Brown suggests, Diana in this respect was something of an anachronism and a rarity, even then.  The idea that William should require someone with no previous sexual history as a prerequisite for marriage may limit his choices dramatically to obscure princesses with dangerous bloodlines and few personal charms.

In addition, does anyone really imagine that he and Kate have not had a physical relationship?

I personally think that Charles is a little maybe much jealous of William.

When William gets married the spotlight will shift totally away from Charles and Camilla be directed to William and his new wife.  I do not think Charles would be happy with loss of any of the spotlight.  I think Camilla would personally welcome the loss of the spotlight.

You know that is a very sad comment, Tampa, but there is probably more than an element of truth lying in there.   Charles, it would appear, despite appearing to have 'everything', is a jealous type of person.   He was eaten up with jealousy over his late wife and sadly that is not a character trait which he can choose to switch on and off at will.

Given what I am learning from Tina Brown's book, perhaps this is a subject which should be pursued on the thread devoted to the Prince of Wales.

It is true to say that when William does marry, it will excite interest all over the World

That's quite an interesting idea that Charles might be jealous of his son, Tampa.  Could you please give us a little more detail about why you think this?  :)

For starters...Diana was a more devoted and attentive mother to Wills and Harry than the Queen was to him. He outlined his "sad" childhood in the Dimbleby book and documentry.  :(
