I have the 'Katja' movie and no you are not missing anything! It tells the story of the Princess Dolguruky (sp), how the Tsar met her when she was in boarding school. He takes her on a sleigh ride through the Country and falls in love. She is presented at Court, with her brother and his wife. Due to the 'affair', her brother gets killed and 'Katja' is sent off to France, where they meet again and become an 'item'.... Again, not even close to history, lots of heavy early 60's make up, but at least Romy Schneider was not the sweet sugar plum she was in the Marischka trilogy.

Thanks. Movie make like nothing more than a love tragedy. I could see an actress playing Katia dashing through the hall in the Winter Palace in her night gown with cries of " Sasha ! Sasha !" as the dying emperor was brought into the palace...

Yes, still the story of Tsar Alexander II and Catharine Dolguruky is a fascinating story, I recall reading about the last morning they spent together and that moment on its own proved that they really loved each other.  Also the movie 'Katia' is a remake from a movie with the same title made in '1938', starring Danile Darrieux in the leading role(she played Mary Vetsera 2 years before).

Also I have some new things to post:p

Mayerling - Rudolf & Mary, In Liebe Vereint Bis In Den Tod(audio from the musical 'Rudolf', movie footage, quotes from Mary Vetsera's letters):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW8fcw-EydQ

Mayerling - Mary Vetsera: Kann Ich Einfach Gehn(Using audio and video-footage from the musical to make a 'theory' about their death, also footage from the movies used):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3IU4qOSqD0

This is just fictive, I don't believe in it myself but I just wanted to use the letter and this is what I came up with

Rudolf: Affaire Mayerling(Trailer):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgq8MnRmwM4

Mayerling(1968) - Ouverture(made as DVD menu):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxdsApzc1eE

I have something coming up with Empress Elisabeth herself, using pictures, footage from one movie('Kaiserin Elisabeth Von Österrich, the assassination-scene), also I intend to include her story and quotes from her poems.

As for the movie 'Juarez', I have not watched it yet(I want to read the biography 'The madness of Carlotta' - from a Belgian writer - and after that watch the movie)

Thanks for the information. I wonder if the Omar Sheriff, Ava Gardner, James Mason and Catherine Deveneve version had came out in DVD yet. I have the English version in VHS tape only.

Except maybe Romy. Sisi was avery complex role to play...if one wants to be althentic...

Indeed true, but in this case i was reffering to her face, sometimes they don't look like her neither
a little bit :'-(

She had the beauty and later on in life the complexity...like another actress who played Sisi Ava Gardner.

Yes, but Ava played a maturer Sissi, when her beauty was starting to fade, the other movies are
more focused on the young Empress, and the best young Empress is Romy, but is sadly that she is
soooo sweet and naive because Sissi wasn't as this

Ava was one of the more beautiful mature Sisis. The others looked positively ugly (the other versions of Mayerling for example).

In a way Ava was also a fading beauty herself in real life.

It did not came out on dvd worldwide but there has been a DVD in France and in Greece too, that's all I know. I have been looking for ages and when I found it I was quite happy to find out that it was the full movie restored in it's former glory(my VHS has not the best quality and has a cut version from 120 minutes). So, I made some kind of menu and so on and made a dvd for myself. I'd be happy to send out a copy after the Holidays(If you can play All Region atleast, don't know if I can do R1-discs)

I really think, "Fall of the Eagles" was the best at playing Sisi's character, may not look a lot like her but her acting was the best to compare the Empress. moody, inmature for her role and cold.

There was a movie in the 90´from Christoph Böll, Heinrich Bölls nephew: Sisi und der Kaiserkuss

Sisi was played by Vanessa Wagner. There is no DVD in Germany or Austria. This film was a bombastic flop in Germany.

I would like to see it. The critics said that it was historical, satiric and frivolous. Böll wanted a new Sisi, bt Romys Sissi wins again. What a bummer!
