Thanks for the lovely close ups of Ava as Sisi. My favourite scene is her entering the ballroom in a diamond tiara & earrings in a black dress & fan. Do you have that image close up ? Thanks :-)

Mayerling. French movie from 1936. Starring: Charles Boyer as the Crown Prince Rudolph and Danielle Darrieux as Baroness Mary Vetsera.

It shows their tragedy as some sort of Romeo and Julieta love story.

By the way, I couldn't see the second close up of Ava as Sissi, it says "the photo is currently unavailable" :'-( , the first one is very good, thanks! She really looks like a mature Sissi

That is a stunning image indeed, my favorite moment of Ava as Sisi....
Also, there is a chance my Hungarian friend is able to find that Hungarian movie, though it bears her name the movie does not revolve around her but the Hungarian Uprising of 1848 up to the Coronation in 1867... Hope she'll find it. Am curious to see it.

And again, anyone who would like to see the musicals about Rudolf and Elisabeth?

Yeah, Catherine Deneuve is/was really beautiful, but the movie isn't very good. I prefer the one with Christine Hörbiger more...

I would love to see Bette Davis as Charlotte, the pictures look beautiful! Does someone know another movie about Charlotte or where she plays a more important role than in the new Sisi-Movies?

I have the one with Bette Davis, and asd for Christine's Mary... I adore her, she has the looks and the innocence of a teenage girl - and the movie for once tells the full, though romanticly dramatised, story of Rudolf and Mary's ill-fated romance(whereas The Crown Prince tells Rudolf's whole story, and the new Sisi-series add his early childhood to that). Also I like Lisa Antoni as Mary, though she portrays Mary as politically active girl(it's not her fault, the script of the musical works that way)

The Ava Gardner as Sisi was not too bad.  :)

No she captured her emotional state well, that of a declining beauty... Though I think Elisabeth still looked beautifully in those final years. I think people were mesmerized by the sight of her size and such.

Yes. She was almost perfect for the part, the only thing I could critize is that she was far too sexy. Sisi was more girlish than womanly like the earthly Ava.
