Famous Habsburgs in movies/plays/cartoons
« on: September 25, 2006, 02:29:40 AM »
For many people, me included, Romy Schneider will always be Sissi. And though the movies from the 50's more gave a picture of the ideal woman, rather than a true image of the empress, I enjoy watching them from time to time. And besides the movies historical unaccurancies, I think Romy was a very good choice to leading role.

But I would like to see a more correct version of the tragic empress on the silver screen, and if it were to be made today, who do you think would be perfect for the role as Sissi? Currently, I can't think of anyone who could play her, but let me hear some bids. :-*

She certainly have grown a bit since Peter Pan, I could'nt regonize her at first. Love her hair in those two pics. I don't know about her nose and mouth, but her eyes and headshape resembles Sissi's. Very good start, Yseult. :)

By the way, I once read that back in the 60's, I think, MGM, I believe, wanted to make a movie about Sissi, featuring Hedy Lamarr in the lead. The plans got cancelled. Too bad, it could have been interesting to see how Hollywood would have portraited Sissi, but I don't know if Hedy would have been right. She was very beautiful, no doubt about that, but I don't think she looked like Sissi one bit. :-\

rachel weisz looks to me a little like sissi. with the right make-up she might make a good one (just based on appearance... as far as acting ability goes... hard to tell)

i don't know about catherine... she doesn't have that look of innocence that i see in sissi (which does not mean i think sissi innocent, but she looked innocent...)... i've never seen her acting a part of a complete innocent, so i don't know if she can act that look.

as far as the look goes the first actress presented is the best of the three (but she needs to dye her hair - not extremely difficult nowadays  :P), and i think rachel can have it too... don't know about catherine... she looks more of the confident beauty type (and i don't think sissi was very confident)

I love Rachel and Catherine, great actresses both of them. I think Weisz would be great too ;D, but I don't know about Zeta-Jones either. I still see her as Catherine the Great, which she was perfect for by the way, but I can't quite see her as Sissi.

I apologize if there is another topic like this.  I just saw the Sissi's mouvies wirh Romy Schneider. Their were so beutiful. I would love to see Sissi and Franz kissing all the time. Beieing so in love like in the mouvies.
Now what about the cartoon? I saw it when I was little and I just fall in love with Sissi. I also fall in love with Franz, he was so beautiful. Is to bead in real life he wasn't so hansome (well is just my opinon) .

I think, that Franz was more handsome in real live, than in films. Especially when he was young of course.
Almost in every book you can read how good looking young man he was. At least lot of people (woman) considered him very handsome in his time.
It's possible to find out a lot of nice portraits of him.
No every picture was done good, but it depents especially on painter.
He was very cute as a little boy as well.
Does somebody know his portrait when he was perhaps 16 years old? I mean, he looks on this picture absolutely lovely, although
a little bit childish. :)
Later maybe I will send it, now I unfortunately can't. :-\

Do you talk about this picture, Susan:

That´s a nice portrait, I think, Franz looks very handsome on it.

In October, there´ll come out a new cinema film in Germany: "Lissi und der wilde Kaiser". It´s a cartoon parody of the Sissi-films with Romy Schneider. The producer Bully Herbig is also a comedian und did a parody of Elisabeth already in his TV-shows.

Yes, that is a nice portrait of Franz-Joseph. However, my favourite portrait if the emperor is the famous Winterhalter painting. Do you know it?

It´s the portrait from 1865, isn´t it? Yes, that´s a very nice painting, too. Most of Winterhalter´s portraits are beautiful, I think, f. e. the portrait of Alexandra of Denmark or Madame Barbe de Rimsky-Korsakov.

Therese, portrait witch you sent, is very nice too. But I ment another portrait. Your picture of Franz Joseph is from time, when he was just emperor. I guess between years 1848-1852. I thought portrait from 1846, when he was even archduke- 16 years old.
If I have opportunity, I will send it this or next week. Now I unfortunately can't.
I like Winterhalter portrait as well.
