Princess Maria del Pilar
Ich aber breite trauernd aus
die weiten weissen Schwingen,
Und kehr' ins Feenreich nach Haus -
Nichts soll mich wieder bringen.

The sixth person, standing between Mercedes and María Teresa is Prince Gennaro of the Two Sicilies.

Do you mean Gennaro (1882-1944), son of Alfonso di Caserta and Antonia Princess of the Two Sicilies? I would have never thought of him. Thanks.

Can you confirm that the woman between Maria Christina and Archduchess Isabella is Infanta Isabella, widow of Gaëtano di Girgenti? I guess this photo had been taken in about 1895. So Isabella must have been in her fourties, but on this picture the woman who is supposed to be Isabella looks so much older, maybe 60.

It's that Gennaro, yes.

About the woman, she certainly is Isabel, la "Chata", eldest daughter of Isabel II. She was in her mid-forties but we should bear in mind that in those times people, and especially women, looked older than nowadays. Then, Isabel was very fat and had never taken a real interest in showing herself pretty... she didn't care about her physical looks too much...

Princess Maria del Pilar

Thank you for the picture.
I've never seen it before.
Does anybody know why she never married ? Were there any suitors to her ?

She was madly in love with her cousin King Alfonso XIII, but he never ever felt attracted by her!! She had some kind of depression for that reason. Maybe that's why she never married... By modern standards, I think Pilar would have been much more attractive to us than Victoria Eugenia!

It really is, much more if we bear in mind that Alfonso was a very... let's say... "passionate" man! ;)

I am looking for a picture of her cousin Maria de las Mercedes de Baviera, Princess Irakly de Bagration.
Can someone post it, please ?
Thanks in advance.

I always thought so too but apparently many women found him charming and charismatic. Too each his own, I suppose.
