OK, I think that the Windisch Gratz are Mediatized Noble Family, right?

Hugo Alfred Adolf Philipp Fst zu Windisch-Grätz was married firstly to Luise, Dss of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and after her death, he married Pss Matylda Radziwill.

I've read that he died in the Schloß Haasberg on 26 Nov 1904.
Schloß Haasberg is in Slovenia near Postojna. Unfortunatly this once beautiful palace is in ruin.



If I am not mistaken, Mariano-Hugo Fst zu Windisch-Grätz was interested in restitution of this castle back to his family. But, don't know if he still want the castle back.

Thank you Daniela,lovely links!I would like to know much more about Prince Hugo and his two wives Louise and Mathilde!I have always found strange the connection beteween Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Windisch-Graetz families,one being Protestant or Lutheran and the other catholic!Can anone tell me how did it come do the marriages between those two families?

The princely family of Windisch-Graetz is indeed a mediatized family.  The current head of house is Fürst Hugo, who several years ago made a fantastic marriiage to the stunning Archduchess Sophie of Austria, a Romanov descendant through both her great-grandparents, Nicholas of Greece and Helen Vladimirovna of Russia.

The Fürst and Fürstin reside at the marvelous Palazzzo taverna in Rome.

Has anybody pictures of the sons of Elisabeth of Windisch-Grätz, daughter of Franz Josephs son Rudolf, as adults? Unfortunaly I only know child pictures of them. Does anybody have infos or pictures of their descendants from today?

They are out from the book "Kaiseradler und rote Nelke", the biography about Elisabeth Marie written by her own daughter-in-law, Princess Ghislaine Windisch-Graetz. If I remember correctly, she writes a bit about Rudolf too, but not very much.

Yes there are some more photos of Elisabeth and her children in the book.
Personally I liked the book, though it has been a time since I read it. Maybe I should re-read it.

I still didn't buy the book, but got the interest again.

I found in the belgian Foto-Archive Cegesoma some interesting wedding pictures of Princess Stephanie of Windischgrätz, daughter of Archduchess Elisabeth Marie, which I had never seen before.

For me she does not look at all like her mother or her parents...as far as I can remember there was some odd on her father, if he is really the prince of Windisch-Grätz. But I link that has a little of her great-grandmother ELisabeth of Austria....

It is said, that Stephanie was a daughter of Archduchess Elisabeth and her lover Egon Lerch, so maybe that is why she has no "Windischgrätz look"...

There is a picture of Egon Lerch in the wonderful book by Friedrich Weissensteiner "Die rote Erzherzogin". The biography by her daughter in law Princess Ghislaine zu Windisch-Graetz "L'Archiduchesse rouge" is also very good.
