Well, Violetta...being myself spanish and living in Spain since I was born a fewww years ago...I can not agree! We are more than forty million people here, and, for sure, there are a good number of people who didn´t like Letizia as princess and future queen. But there are also a good number of people supporting Letizia. She´s a clever woman, strong enough to make her own choices and to endure the criticism.

To tell the tuth, I have no opinion of Letizia.  i feel very neutral about her. in my post i only repeated the opinion of someone living in spain ....it was inteesting fo me to hear an opinion of someone who sees her every day on tv and who knows more about her.

Well, nothing in Spain was expecting our prince and king to be marrying a journalist. We just knew Letizia as the girl who was anchoring the daily evening news on TVE. She was a common woman, with not royal or aristocratic blood running in her veins, and she was divorced from a first marriage. I suppose all of us felt shocked!

It happened six years ago. Of course, there are spanish thinking she was and she is not good enough to be the princess of Asturias. They usually stated Letizia is a sort of social climber, ambitious and very bossy And they usually add that Letizia is not beloved nor by her father-in-law, neither by her two sisters-in-law.

I have a good impression about Letizia -shared with another good number of spanish people. Her solo agenda is growing and growing, reflecting a woman deeply concerned about the welfare of children, education, culture; also about the handicapped people. This is very important. She shared another agenda with her husband -and they seems to be a good match! A plus: I really like their two little daughters, specially infanta Leonor. Leonor is like a doll but with character; a cute little princess

What about queen Sophia? Does she get on well with Letizia? So, it seems that the Princess of Asturias is not liked by he husband`s family,is she?

Queen Sofía seems to be very close to her daughter-in-law. Every time the Queen has spoken about Letizia, it seems that Sofia is really fond of Letizia. But...who knows? Here we have a good deal of gossip about our royals

I do feel vey strange that a girl, a fomer tv journalist, becomes a princess and a future queen. actually, in many european monarchies girls of no royal o aistocratic  blood, marry heirs to the throne. for me a royal is A CHOSEN PERSON, A PERSON WHOSE ROYAL STATUS IS DETERMINED BY BIRTH. it is strange fo me that suddenly a person who is like myself, who comes from the ordinary background  is the future queen and is supposed to be treated in a different way. that`s why those modern royal wifes are not "really royal" for me. i wonder if it wasn`t possible for those princes to find someonen of equal rank. if princes and princesses follow this tend there won`t be any genuine royals at all! they will be commoners!

Look at Queen Silvia of Sweden. She is not a noble women by birth. But she is a real Queen. Sweden loves he.
Maria Teresa of Luxemburg was not accepted by her mother-in-law Josephine, because Maria is not noble. And the Luxemburg people loves her, too.

And to the young princess: Mette Marit of Norway had a really trouble life, but now she is a dutiful person. Mary of Denmark and Maxima of the Netherlands have not so much problems like Letizia, because they have no hard pressure.

I don´t think that Sophia or Juan Carlos didn´t like her, but  Jaime looked down one's nose at Letizia.

Really?Didn't know that?Well,after all he is a son of the Count of Ripalda so maybe when times are changing he just likes to stand to his own class...but on the other hand one of his ancestors also bears the name Ortiz de Zerate(which doesn't mean that he is related to Letizia) so this whole thing can look a bit strange...

I don't think so- Spain has allowed female succession for centuries.  In the 19th century Spain had a Queen regnant (Isabella 11), and of course there was Isabella l back in the 15th century.

I believe that they still have the male-preference succession (unless that has changed)- the same as the UK.  If Letizia has no son- her eldest daughter will inherit.  If she does, he will come first- before his elder sisters.

We have the male-preference succession, but female succession is absolutely allowed. As you perfectly pointed, we had a Queen regnant, Isabel II, in the 19th century. When Alfonso XII, son of Isabel, died, he left us only two little infantas of his second wife: Mercedes and María Teresa. The widow of Alfonso was pregnant, so Mercedes was not proclaimed queen because her mother could be delivered from a boy -in fact, she was delivered from a boy, Alfonso XIII! But Mercedes remained for so long as the pressumptive heiress of the crown.

Now, Leonor is the second in the sucession line, just after her father, Felipe.
