New thread after the last one got to 27 pages. To start off, I resized this one so it's larger. Unfortunately, it also made took away from the quality:

I made screen captures of a video from Mogilev:

I'm kind of scared we have already the third "Rare Pictures"-thread and I need to say something.
When I first opened a Rare Picture Thread it was meant for pictures that are nowhere else here on the forum and that most of the others will nott have seen before. Now looking through the threads I get the feeling people just post every picture they found somewhere on the internet, even the most known ones! :P
That is not what this thread is for!

Just wanted to say that before everyone starts posting here!

Exactly. I very seldom see new photos on this thread anymore. I would further suggest that any photos found on Livadia.org, The Romanov Web, or the now defunct NAOTMAA.com are pretty well-known to the majority of members here. Most of the photos in English-language books on the Romanovs are also generally common. The same goes for Yale University's Beinicke collection, though in all honesty, that collection is so vast that it's possible to discover new treasures even after multiple viewings. But please, if you're new to the AP forums, take some time to become familiar with the existing photo threads, as well as Livadia.org and Beinicke's extensive collections. THEN, if you find something new, post it.

It seems to me that most of the truly rare photos come from foreign-language publications and websites, new books and magazine articles, vintage publications, and eBay.

Indeed! I agree.
With the available online options, pictures are indeed getting less and less rare. I understand overall that we don't know what others have seen in comparison to what we have seen, but I believe Sarushka has given a great example of what to expect.
*two thumbs way up*  ;)

I was thinking about saying something like that, actually. It's sort of disappointing when someone has posted on this thread, and it's a common picture.

I know Laura and Sarushka have my extensive photo collection... hahaha.  So I assume a lot of those we all know about anyway - honestly, a lot of the images that have been posted are indeed not rare at all.  maybe we should have guidelines.

I agree that a lot of the pictures posted in these threads aren't rare at all, but there are some gems that are posted here. I'm not sure how you'd go about making guidelines though. If you have some that might work, that would be great.

I know that in the last thread on page 27, Duchess Vicky posted one that I doubt most of the members have seen before.

That's true -- I'd not seen that picture.

IMO, there are plenty of photo-threads around here for posting pictures you like. As I said below, I think it would be a good idea to reserve this thread for pictures that come from unusual sources. Also, don't assume that if a photo is new to you, it's automatically rare. When I first came here, I had over a dozen Romanov books on my shelf (including Prince Michael's book and a couple obscure Russian volumes) and during the next year, I discovered there were literally THOUSANDS of photos I'd never seen before, and the majority of them were not actually rare.

I do have Lanie's collection, and believe me when I tell you there are heaps of photos in there that have never been posted here, or on Livadia.org.  :o

Wow, how can I get in on Lanie's collection?  ;)

As for Prince Michael of Greece's album, I can't wait for Laura Mabee to finish putting it online!

I can never keep track!!!  I was thinking of just uploading everything into some directory online somewhere, but it would probably take FOREVER...

My picture folder is 353MB... it'd take forever!  I will go look through them and post some stuff here that I don't think hsa been shared here.  If anyone has requests for larger versions of things (and as Sarah and Laura can tell you, they ARE huge!) feel free to send me an email: lanie at burntmail dot com.  :)
