Nice. Very modern looking, though the settings and maybe the old cut diamonds reveal that it is not made recently...

Where is the picture coming from?

I already add this, but it could also be here...

In answer to an earlier question. The Dowager Empress Marie did escape with at leat on tiara. It was bought by Queen Mary.  Britain's dowager queen left it in turn to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.  Princess Margaret was fond of this tiara, a small one with a large central sapphire, but if it was given to here by her mother I do not know.

It is my understanding, as explained to me, that all of the QM's & Princess Margaret's jewelry was left to the Crown Jewels collection, for tax reasons. This means that the monarch has the use of it and at her [or his] discretion can lend it out to members of the family. But it is no longer personal property. Sort of like leaving it to a museum. It is complicated & I may have the details mixed up a bit, but I think that is the jist of it.
Cheers,
Robert

Robert, as well as their jewelery going back to the crown for tax reasons, would not some of the pieces that the QM wore never have been hers personally, but rather on loan during her lifetime---like Queen Victoria's ruby and diamond tiara, Queen Alexandra's snake bracelet and Queen Alexandra's pearl and diamond necklace and earrings?

Kensington Palace has Margaret's rooms open to the public now, and they are bare except for the wall coverings and curtains and chandeliers. When I walked through I could visualize everything her children did not want being packed up and returned to the Royal storehouses for the same reason.   Melissa K.

That is exactly true, NAATOMA, this is not a new arrangement. As you probably are aware, inheritance tax is extremely high in the UK,especially amongst the "high income" set.  The same is true with art collections, other antiques, libraries, etc. Some of Princess Margaret's books recently went on the auction block, the money being given to various of her patronages as opposed to any indivduals.

Interesting about Prcss. Margaret's apartment being open now. I had heard it was to be opened, but bare ? I wonder what the point it is ??. It is my understanding that eventually both hers and Dianas are to be incorporated into the Kensington Palace museum. Or that is one of the ideas being considered. The eventual plan is for no one to have housing there.
Best,
Robert

Robert,
You may know better than I, but I am under the impression that the Queen and immediate members of the Royal family are exempt from tax, and only pay it voluntarily...so why would they have needed to exempt the jewels from tax by donating personal property to the State?

I think that used to be the case, but my understanding is that the Queen does actually now pay taxes on her income and capital gains, and that this change was effectuated about a decade ago.

I believe this agreement was made after a general uproar from the public following on the heels of the Windsor Castle fire, royal marital scandals, costs of the yacht Brittania, etc.  Robert, can you shed any light on this?

As far as the rest of the British royal family, I believe that individual members still receive payments from the Civil List, but by agreement with Parliament, the Queen now reimburses the Treasury from her own pocket for payments made to her family members (but can claim said payments as a tax offset, e.g., deduction, so she actually benefits in a way).

I think this is the current state of affairs, but am certainly willing to stand corrected, since UK tax law is not my area of practice.  ;)

thanks so much!   i had COMPLETELY forgotten that it was a parure!

and here i was, thinking it was the tiara being used as a necklace --- in spite of knowing (but not remembering) that it wasn't.

i can be a bit slow at times....   but i eventually get there :) )
