Why is her Majesty not in attendance?

HM already payed her respect by having the late Duke flown to The Netherlands and then to Italy onwards.
As a Head of State HM can not attend due to not to offend HM The King of Spain,as it is possible Carlists
will take the opportunity to express themselves.Any rank beneath that of Monarch is able to attend as a family
representative only. Also, there are some questions as to whom bestowed the Toison d'Or to the late Duke as
that is the prerogative of HM The King of Spain,or HI&RH Archduke Otto of Habsburg as Head of their respective Houses.
The Toison d'Or is seen prominently on the Arms of the Bourbon Parma's on the coffin. The late Duke was bestowed
with it by his late father who considered himself the rightfull "King of Spain",only revered as  such by some in his
closest family and some Carlist die-hards.So,HM not attending is a diplomatic absence, allthough I believe as a dear
and close friend of the deceased she rather would have attended I'm sure.

Thank you for clearing the reason Lucien. Archduke Otto and Archduke Lorenz of Belgium are attending?

Thank you for clearing the reason Lucien. Archduke Otto and Archduke Lorenz of Belgium are attending?

Archduke Otto is too frail to attend due to his age alone but his son and Heir might attend.
Archduke Lorenz,I am not sure as on august 28th the commemoration on occasion of the
75th anniversary of the death of HM Queen Astrid takes place and the family will gather in
Briquemont at the Queen Astrid chapel to attend a Mass of Remembrance in the afternoon.
We'll have to wait and see who will represent either,if at all, I'm afraid.

He was a likeable man.

(Theoretical Carlos son and his wife would be now King and Queen of Spain? Or did I misunderstood something?)

Theoretically yes,if the Carlists would have had it their way.

Instead,as the late Duke is now finally interred a few minutes ago,the inauguration of Duke Carlos Javier
took place minutes ago at the Steccata as his younger brother Prince Jaime presented him with
the collare dell Ordine Costantinianao as a token he is the new Duke of Parma..

Right now he holds his inaugural speech and he holds on to the Spanish claims.
In all due respect, not that it matters much,Don Juan Carlos and Felipe will not
budge an inch but it's part of the folklore,as I see it,and anyone else for that matter.
It is exactly this point, the spanish claims, why HM Queen Beatrix can not, could not be
present at the Steccata today. It was in order not to offend her dear and close friends
TM The King and Queen of Spain.

The new Duke answerred questions by the press corps after the lenghty funeral Mass, the Inauguration and receiving the condolences of hundreds of guests. It must have been quite exhausting indeed. The intensive travelling, the ceremonies of over a week, but the children and family of the late Duke are immaculate,no trace of exhaustion, but still,it was intense. That and the heat in Parma,it is very sunny and very warm there now. This made many guests in church dip their heads with tissues,or used a beautifull fan's like the one HRH Princess Irene used.

Duke Carlo Saverio as he's known in Italy, gave an impressive speech in Italian, ending with warm loving words to his father in Spanish.

With his brother Prince Jaime by his side he answerred all questions by the press in a dignified patient way, even the one by the horribly persistent rude italian journalist who insisted on wanting to know the new weddingdate exclaiming;"My readers have a
right to know"...really...scumbags..But no,the Duke remained calm and answerred in Italian without revealing the new date.
This made the journalists of the Gazetta di Parma say;"He's good at it,very good of him" pointing at both the diplomatic and
language skills.

Later during the reception for the guests at the Teatro Regio it was clear how easily the children of the late Duke have conversations with each and everyone while changing from Italian to English to Spanish to Dutch without a problem, polyglots, all of them.Especially Princess Margarita switched form one language to another and was fluent in all.

The father of Duchess Annemarie,Hans Gualthérie van Weezel, thought it a beautifull and warm event on what would
have been his daughters wedding day.

A new wedding day is planned, but not disclosed yet but it will be this year as was the wish of the late Duke Carlos Hugo.
