  I found this new book in my local bookseller, it is about the three royal cousins, is it worth buying, it retails here in Sydney for $40.any reviews would be appreciated

I haven't seen it, but it sounds like a take off of  Crowns in Conflict  by Theo Aronson.

I happen to like Aronson very much and have many of his fine books.

As for this one, I will have to wait until I get a chance to look it over.

Aloha all!

Just got back from a quick trip to my local "Borders Books" -- saw a book in the new nonfiction section entitled -- "King, Kaiser, Tsar" (didn't get the author).

It looks like (obviously) a book on George, Willy and Nicky - the 3 cousins - in glancing through it it seemed like a good read - and not just a political discussion of World War I but also
lots of personal information and anecdotes -- it said that it also has letters that have never been published before that were just released by
Queen Elizabeth II.

Anyone read this?  I did a search on it, but couldn't find it here (sorry if I missed it).

I am reading "King, Kaiser, Tsar" now. It is a good read, although the long passages about Wilhelm II (I guess because I can't stand him>) can get tedious. I have, however, found some minor errors. One that comes to mind is the author states Empress Marie Feodorovna's mother, Queen Louise of Denmark, and her mother-in-law, Empress Marie Alexandrovna, were sisters. Wrong! Having said that, the book is an interesting, easy read. I have been moving, so I haven't picked it up in a week, but will get back to it tonight.

I acquired this book soon after it appeared on the market because it dealt with Nikolai II.

It is an enjoyable and informative read, which offers a few insights into the inter-relationships beween the the 3 cousins from an English perspective.

The book offers a few exerpts of letters they had exchanged (which for me was of particular interest). Endnotes are helpfully provided.

An poignant set of images appear between pp 256-7: Nikolai sitting gaunt and dejected after abdicating with a wall of armed soldiers behind him, Willy appears equally crestfallen following his abdication, while below one sees a much larger image showing an enthusiastic crowd celebrating military success with a small insert of George cheering his people and the only one of the three who remained to rule.

For those who enjoy reading about this era I would recommend this book with out reservation.

I looked for and couldn't find the other thread- maybe I didn't look hard enough. I think it is a wonderful book even you if you don't learn all that much that is new if you are already an expert like me, except that I learned quite a bit about Wilhelm II who I am not so much of an expert on, not that I am particularly interested in him. It is important to have a book that considers the inter relationship between the three cousins, since that certainly had something to do with World War I, as this book says.

I am reading this book now.  I think I am about half way through - past the pictures anyway.

I think there is a lot about Wilhelm because he reigned longer than either Nicholas or George. The book is going by dates.  I actually feel a little sorry for George as he inherited the throne just three years before the beginning of the war.  But because he was a constitutional monarch and not an autocrat his lack of "on the throne experience" didn't matter all that much.

I am reading this book right now. So far, it is interesting except for the fairly glaring error about Minny and Sasha's mothers being sisters. I'm not impressed with her research skills and fact checking.   I was more interested in reading it when i found that the author had been given access to the Royal archives.
