Is the grey one the one that Sissi used for going to Marie Valerie's wedding??
Do you know if the others were used in other important days?

I am not certain if that is the dress. I have seen it described only as grey silk
The Empress stood 1.72m, which is rather tall for that era, her shoe size was a European size 40, however 55 kilo is way underweight for a woman that size. I do believe that due to her 'circumstances' she was anorexic. Most anorexic get so thin that their hormones get unbalanced and their period stops.
Also, in her artifacts a cocaine syringe was found. Nothing unusual again for that time, but it is also a way to stay thin and still have energy. I think she would have benefitted by a visit to dr Freud......

Wait... so you're saying Sissi was a druggie?  Woah.  *stunned expression*  And i thought it was a hippie thing.

You need to look at the time she lived and the use of cocaine was accepted then, they did not know the detrimental effects it has on the human body. They knew that morphine was addictive, but not cocaine. More then likely her dr. presribed it.
It was prescribed for depression, tiredness, toothache and the sort. Actually Coca Cola had cocaine in it when it was introduced. Don't judge the timeframe with todays knowledge and eyes.
If you look over the Habsburg thread, there should be a thread about Emperor Franz Joseph and his medicine use. I think it was in this thread that the cocaine syringe of the Empress Elisabeth was discussed.
so, no, not a druggie!

Thank you for the explanation, however, my definition of "druggie" is one who uses a drug that is harmful (even if it wasn't known at the time).  I guess I was half-way right.

her weight was less than 55 Kilo...
im also 1,71/1,72 and i way 50 kilo...but i eat all i want i dont get fat..lucky me i guess :p
but nowadays its quiet different!

yes the cocaine syringe was shown on a DVD of a documentary you can buy at schönbrunn or the Hofburg.
but she used it like you said in your other post, for depression and her doctor prescribed it indeed!

other time more knowledge of "drugs"..otherwise people still would have used it as a medicin against depression..
the only stupid thing with drugs like cocain if you use it when your depressed it doubles your feelings more... but well they didnt know it back then i guess

Sissi weighed exactly 50 kilos, was a real tragedy for her to overweigh it. She had a very strict diet, so
she could keep her perfect figure all her life and after four pregnancies. In that days cocaine wasn't considered
a drug, it was a medicine, like a modern anti deppressive. I saw the little box which she used to carry it.

Imagine to be alive just drinking six glasses of milk everyday or meat juice. She also practiced
intense excersise even with this awful diet, so she could keep a little waist of 50 centimeters, of course
that corsets helped her, but she was really thin, in that days anorexia wasn't considered an illness
as today, I knew that it was known as the "Princesses' Illnes"

ANTIQUES ROADSHOW (UK)         11/10/09, series 32, oxford, (53 minutes in).

Did anyone else catch this broadcast. Near the end of the programme was the most beautiful empress sissi bracelet you will ever see, which also doubles up as a brooch.

I can do pic's, but I'm rather hopeless with links, just to say its still running on BBCi  player for those who can get it.

I do have a pic which I took from the show, & I could post it, though I'm not sure if this is allowed ?
