I'm thinking a wheelchair aboard a ship might not have been a real good idea. They'd have had to make certain it was VERY well secured any time it was stopped. A wheelchair also would have been difficult to move around the ship, as doors and passageways would be smaller than on land. I also doubt that the ship had an elevator, so moving from one deck to another would have been another difficulty.
