Dear Friends
Please go to www.greekroyalfamily.gr, th official site of the Greek Royal Family. there you'll find a full answer about that. Just to inform you, the Greek Royal Family is NOT the owner of the items that are going to be sold at Christie's. The DT is just playing Christie's game, to atract the public interest...

The Daily Telegraph is not playing any game.  They were reporting an auction -and they were reporting what they were given by Christies.

The auction is titled "The collection of George I" so it obviously has a royal provenance of some sort.

To be honest, at their site, the Greek Royal Family say that some of the items were them, but they are just leting everyone to undertand that they sold them since 1991, when they were carried away from Tatoi Palace, with the permision of the Greek government. Since then, the object were at big containers at an english harbour. Propably the cost of keeping them was big, and the Royal Family was forced to sale some items. But not to Christie's. So,my opinion, to be fair enougth, is that the items that are going to be sold from Christies, were sold previously by thw Greek Royal Family. But now, the owner is someone else...I don't see nothing wrong with that, considering that all the Greek Governments want to ignore in purpose the ROyal History of Greece. So it's hipocritic the interest and the accusations that ''the ex is selling our history''!

The catalogue arrived and it is lavish to say the least. Over 400 pages of  wonderful items plus archival photographs from the palaces. Wonderful.

What would you expect, Eric? It is an auction of goods after all. BTW, a lot of thoses "spoons, plates & picture frames " are Faberge and all have a royal provenance. Perhaps you should take more time to peruse the volume?

Yes...when I get my hands on them. I was expect a little bit more portraits, photo frames, and personal effects than kitchen ware.  ??? Anyway I will get it for research.  ;)

Kitchenware? There is a lot of  fine 19th century silver TABLEware, but no kitchen utinsels I could find.  In any case, you can check it out online at the Christie's site, but I do not think they have the in situ pictures on that.

The catalogue has some great items and pictures. As Robert has pointed out, the Faberge items are appear to be very nice with a royal provenance......which means very expensive!

So what is the story here?  Who provided the inventory that was sold?  I read on the Greek Royal family’s site that they had nothing to do with the auction?  Seems a bit hard to believe

What I do not understand is who is selling these items? If it is not King Constantin is it the Greek Government then?
