Moved to Tears?
« on: December 02, 2006, 07:50:55 PM »
Have you ever heard a song that made you want to cry, because you were so touched? I remember there was one for me called "They Don't Understand" by Sawyer Brown. I understand the song because part of it refers to the struggles of a widow with young children, myself losing my dad when I was 11. I think that part of the song sums up my feelings about my dad's death from cancer. I also like the reference to Jesus.

A mother riding on a city bus
kids are yelling kicking up a fuss
everybody’s staring
not knowing what she's going through
somebody said don't you even care
and do you let them do that everywhere
she slowly turned around, looked up and stared.

She said, "Please forgive them
they've been up all night
their father struggled
but he finally lost his fight
he went to heaven
in the middle of the night
so please forgive my children
they don’t understand."

Chorus:
Everybody's busy with their own situation
everybody's lost in their own little world bottled up,
hurried up, trying to make a dream come true
they don't understand
everybody's livin' like there ain't no tomorrow
maybe we should stop and take a little time
cause you never really know what your neighbor’s going through
they don't understand.

A man driving on the interstate
slowing down traffic making everybody wait
everybody’s staring not knowing what he's going through
somebody honked from the passing lane
yelling out the window "hey I ain't got all day"
the old man looked around and he caught his eye.

He said, "Please forgive me
you know it's been a long life
my wife has passed away
and my kids don’t have the time
I've been left all alone
and it's getting hard to drive
so please forgive me, children
they don't understand."

Chorus:
Everybody's busy with their own situation
everybody's lost in their own little world bottled up,
hurried up, trying to make a dream come true
they don't understand
everybody's livin' like there ain't no tomorrow
maybe we should stop and take a little time
cause you never really know what your neighbor’s going through
they don't understand

A man hanging on a wooden cross
giving everything to save the lost
everybody's staring
not knowing what he's going through
somebody said "you don't have a prayer
if you're the king come on down from there"
the man just turned his head
looked up and stared

He said "please forgive them
for they have not seen the light
but they'll come to know me
when I come back to life
and go to heaven
to make everything all right
so please forgive your children
they don't understand

Chorus:
Everybody's busy with their own situation
everybody's lost in their own little world bottled up,
hurried up, trying to make a dream come true
they don't understand
everybody's livin' like there ain't no tomorrow
maybe we should stop and take a little time
cause you never really know what your neighbor’s going through
they don't understand

A mother riding on a city bus
kids are yelling kickin’ up a fuss
everybody’s staring
not knowing what she's going through

I hate the song Concrete Angel, because it always makes me cry.

She walks to school with the lunch she packed,
Noboby knows what she's holdin' back,
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday,
She hides the bruises with linen and lace.

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask,
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask,
Bearing the burden of a secret storm,
Sometimes she wishes she was never born.

CHORUS:
Through the wind and the rain,
She stands hard as a stone,
In a world that she can't rise above,
But her dreams give her wings,
And she flies to a place where she's loved,
Concrete angel.

Somebody cries in the middle of the night,
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights,
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate,
When morning comes it'll be too late.

REPEAT CHORUS

A statue stands in a shaded place,
An angel girl with an upturned face,
A name is written on a polished rock,
A broken heart that the world forgot.

Ah yes, Martina McBride. I sang this song and the audience started crying. It's very moving; the music video was too disturbing for me to see. It's like her other song Independence Day. Very Sad.

This one is similar... :'( :'( :'(

Alyssa Lies by Jason Somebody.

My little girl met a new friend,
just the other day,
on the playground at school
between the tires and the swings

But she came home with tear-filled eyes,
and she said to me "Daddy, Alyssa lies"

Well I just brushed it off at first,
'cause I didn't know how much my little girl had been hurt
or the things she had seen.
I wasn't ready when I said "You can tell me"

and she said...

"Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

My little girl laid her head down that night to go to sleep.
As I stepped out the room, I heard her say a prayer so soft and sweet
"God bless my mom and my Dad
and my new friend, Alyssa
*oh*I know she needs you bad

Because Alyssa lies to the classroom,
Alyssa lies everyday at school,
Alyssa lies to the teachers
as she tries to cover every bruise"

(bridge)

I had the worst night of sleep in years
as I tried to think of a way to calm her fears
I knew just what it was I had to do *I knew exactly what I had to do*
but when we got to school on Monday I heard the news

My little girl asked me why everybody looked so sad
the lump in my throat grew bigger
with every question that she asked.
Until I felt the tears run down my face
and I told her that Alyssa wouldn't be at school today

'Cause she doesn't lie in the classroom
she doesn't lie anymore at school
Alyssa lies with Jesus
because there's nothin' anyone would do

Tears filled my eyes when my little girl asked me why
Alyssa lies
*Oh Daddy, oh* Daddy tell me why
Alyssa lies

I always cry when I listen to Les Miserables. And Wicked. And Light in the Piazza. Especially the last song of Light in the Piazza, where Margaret has to let her daughter go on and be happy in Italy and she herself has to return home alone to her loveless marriage.

Aww which Wicked songs make you cry? I'll admit "I'm Not That Girl" gets to me (cause really at one time or another we're all "not that girl"), but for the most part they're all pretty uplifting.

The first time I heard Josh Groban sing "To Where You Are" I cried, but that was both a combination of the song and the fact that his voice is amazing. On his new cd a few of the songs have made me pretty emotional, but not necessarily weepy.

A lot of songs from "MIss Saigon" make me cry, especially "I'll Give My Life For You".  That particualr song expresses the deep love a mother has for her child.  It is the strength of that love that allows her to sacrifice her own life so that her son could be happy in the end.  Very, very moving.

"I Dreamed A Dream" from "Les Miserables" often moves me to tears because it expresses the desparation of a young woman who should not have had to go through what she had gone through.  In many ways it relates to my own life because I had experiences that made me grow up a bit too soon and I realized then that life was far from a fairy tale.  Fantine had to realize the same thing.

As for "Wicked", the two songs that move me are "I'm Not That Girl" and "For Good".  The first because it expresses what all girls feel at one time or another, because let's face it, everyone is an outcast at some point.  Again, I relate through various life experiences, but mostly it makes me think of a time when I first arrived to the States and did not have any friends because people refused to look past my differences.  The lyrics are brilliant in my opinion.

"For Good" simply reminds me of the fact that after this year everything in my life will take a differnt turn.  I will graduate from university and that means that I will have to say good-bye to some very special people who have helped me change and become who I am today.  My very close friends will be moving to California because that's where Mary's husband will have a permanent parish, and if it wasn't for these two people I would not have been able to get through this past year all that easily.  From them, as well as some other people I have learned the true meaning of frienship, and this song speaks precisely of that.  It shows us that people grow and change, but the growing up and the changing is very seldom possible without the influence and guidence of very good and special people.

tears in heaven by eric clapham (sp?) makes me cry, because he sings it with emotion which nowadays not many singers do
we are all given one chance at life
to make it into something better
to ruin it
or to shut it out
but what ever we do we will do it by ourselves
without comments or opinions predjucing us
for it is our life
make of it what we will

I agree with Dasha, "For Good" is one of the sad ones. Last year, I was in a show and we had a little prayer meeting before the curtain went up. Some of my good friends were graduating and we probably wouldn't see each other again (for years at least). Someone played that song and we all cried.

For Good and Concrete Angel are definate tearjerkers!
On Eagle's Wings makes me so sad. Recently, Holly showed me a video using clips from "The Passion of Christ" (among other movies having to do with teenage problems-drinking, beatin, etc) set to the song "The Reason" (link at the bottom). Very sad!
Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
That your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that youve delivered
Will soon deliver you

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Did you know
That your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know
That your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
And when you kiss your little boy
Youve kissed the face of god

Mary, did you know?
The blind will see
The deaf will hear
And the dead will live again
The lame will leap
The dumb will speak
The praises of the lamb

Mary, did you know
That your baby boy is lord of all creation?
Did you know
That your baby boy will one day rules the nations?
Did you know
That your baby boy is heavens perfect lamb?
This sleeping child youre holding
Is the great I am

That song makes me cry.
Here's that video-this video seriously has made my faith all the more stronger

Oh! I forgot! I love the Josh Groban song "Believe" that was in Polar Express. It makes me tear up every time I hear it; I'm at that point in my life where it hits that I'm really growing up and my childhood is gone, so the song strikes a chord.

Oh, I know that feeling. You're happy that you're growing up, but you still miss those childhood memories.

"Your Eyes" from Rent always makes me cry. It's the saddest thing I've ever heard someone sing to their dying girlfriend...

"All I Ask of You" makes me cry if, and only if, it's a recording of Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton. Steve had the most beautiful voice of any male singers, and his death was a huge loss.
