And the Third Library?
« on: October 07, 2004, 08:57:11 PM »
I've just been reading about the libraries within the Alexander Palace; two are profiled on this website, but it is stated that three existed. What about that third library? Where was it located within the palace, and was it more specialized than the other two?

1930s: "...Gosfond...took a book cupboard from the First Library, where the books of Catherine II were kept, to furnish the Collegium of Narkompros in Moscow. From the Great Library, they took part of the suite of mahogany furniture by A. Tour and most of the suite of Mel'tser furniture from the Third Library, leaving six chairs and taking two dozen..."

A. Kuchumov, Oral Memoirs 1993

Also A. Kuchumov said "...the billiard table made by Mel'tser from the the Ceremonial Study of Nicholas II...was going to the Kremlin..."
