I was very lucky enough to be introduced to Prince Charles on Thursday.
We spoke for several minutes and I found him witty and very interesting....at the end of our conversation I made so bold as to compliment him on seeming so content and happy these days.

Very cool, ashdean. :)  If it's not prying, what were the circumstances of the meeting? Was it at an official or semi-official engagement? Charles does have an air of contement about him that was lacking for a long time. It seems that he's at peace and happy in his marriage, has good relations with his children, he's about to become a grandfather and, at this stage of his life, has seemingly accepted that if he becomes King, it won't be a long reign and is instead focusing his considerable energies on his various interests and charities. He always seemed so restless before and now just really seems content and at ease with the way his life is unfolding. Heir to the throne can be a thorny role but life must seem pretty good about now. :)

Thanks for sharing your experiance with the POW. Charles does come across as someone quite witty from what I hear. Also quite fascinating to listen to also.

He was on a offical visit to the small town of Kirkby Lonsdale (about 14 miles from my home) where I have business interests. We were told before hand that a certain number of people would be introduced apart from the local town council etc. He was utterly charming to all...the children, the local brass band etc etc

I have to say, I don't think I've ever seen Camilla look this good. I love her dress and the tiara looks great:

Sometimes, her formal wear almost seems like it's wearing her--I don't know whether it's the fabrics, construction, tailoring or what. This dress, however, is perfect on, and for, her.

Hi,

Yes, Camilla looks great here.  The gown and the hair and tiara are all "just right"!!!
She looks so good and much younger when she's smiling.
Great photograph...

Oh yes, Camilla rocked it alright! She couldn't have chosen a better tiara to call her own, which I know she doesn't own. Whomever styled her tiara hair is a total keeper...both hair and tiara were perfection. It really takes a special hairstyle to wear that massive piece...and Camilla's got it. I really enjoyed seeing her with the PoW at a European royal event...finally. Edward and Sophie are always representing the British faction, but I've often wondered why. It should be Charles and Camilla.

"While en route to the Amstel Hotel for an annual Queen's Day lunch with friends, socialite Morris Nieuwenhuis was thrilled to bump into 'Princess Camilla' aka the Duchess of Cornwall, who was taking a break from Royal celebrations. 'She was just walking around Amsterdam,' revealed Nieuwenhuis, 'and started chatting with us [about] how she loved the city, the party and the weather.' 'We were flabbergasted and loved [meeting] her,' he continued. 'Especially the orange hat she bought from a street vendor. 'She was really sweet, very open and approachable.
'Although she has been in the media a lot, I always thought she was a bit shy and uptight but on the contrary, she was very sweet. 'I asked if she was looking forward to the inauguration and all the festivities and she was and thought it was a special day. 'She bought an orange hat as a souvenir. We love Camilla!'

In this case, I think invitations were sent to all the heirs who in turn represented their countries. So, for once, the decision was made to send Charles.

C & C have done tours, etc...perhaps they don't represent the Queen more because of lingering ill will towards Camilla? Maybe the thought of putting her forth in glamorous, foreign events (as opposed to day to day, more casual ones) still rubs people the wrong way? I don't know.

Since (and throughout, really) the Jubilee, there has been more of a focus on what will become the 'royal family' when Charles becomes King--C&C, William & Kate (plus their family) and Harry and his eventual wife. (Though Harry will probably be pushed aside as William & Kate's family ages and grows) There seems to be a desire, especially on Charles's part, to downsize and streamline. So, perhaps putting Charles, and Camilla, forth more, as opposed to the Wessexes, plays into that as well.

Wow, that last picture really caught the beauty of that tiara and I agree with other posters - Camilla's hair looks really good this way.

It has always appeared to me that the Windsors' preference is to send "third tier ranking" members of the royal family to represent them at European royal weddings, funerals and such.  The Queen never does, and it seems Charles only attends major ones like the John Paul II's funeral.  Certainly opposite of what continental royals seem to do - their monarchs and heirs regularly attend each other's functions.

But there have been a number of big royal occasions in Britain in recent years.  Perhaps this break from usual tradition was to thank the continental royals for their attendance at the celebrations for the Queen's diamond jubilee, William and Kate's wedding, etc.

The Prince of Wales took part in the State Opening of Parliament today, apparently for the first time in 17 years, and accompanied by the Duchess of Cornwall.

Here is the Daily Mail's account, concentrating on Camilla's clothes and tiara (the Queen wears the same outfit (including crown!) every year).

She looked stunning and relaxed. I don't know how she does it. That experience would make me tremble. She's a strong lady. It nice that the press are "bolstering" her up rather than "tearing" her down. I suspect Clarence House is behind that and good for them. Well done, Camilla!

From the Queen's speech before Parliament yesterday:

Daily Mail: "A spokesman for Clarence House played down the significance of their attendance, saying: ‘The Prince of Wales often supports the Queen on state occasions, and his and the duchess’s diaries were clear on this occasion.’ The visit followed the surprise announcement by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday that, for the first time in 40 years, the Queen will not attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Conference. Instead, Prince Charles will take her place at the two-day event in Sri Lanka, in November. "
