After the wedding of Alfonso de Borbon with Carmencita Martinez-Bordiú (a.k.a. la Nietissima), Franco's wife made a huge reverence to her grand-daughter as she was the future Queen.
Carmen's grand-mother and father lobbied a great deal to see her and Alfonso succeed to Franco.
In the end, he choosed Juan Carlos.

Edtash, you´re right: the duke was driving the car. I don´t remember if he was or not driving the car in an irresponsible way...this happened a lot of years ago ;) By the way, I never liked so much the Duke of Cadiz, so I never tried to find info about him... ;)

Oh yes he was. He was not only speeding, but also tried to pass in a curve. Never a good combination, but there are many, many people who make this mistake and not only place themselves at risk, but end injuring others.

A most unfortunate accident indeed!
