To answer Robert's question, it is not the U.S. History channel I'm talking about, but the Canadian one.  They also show stuff like Ice Road Morons, shows that have, in my opinion, no place on a channel that is supposed to deal with History.

Still the Kennedys looks good from what I saw.  Greg Kinnear plays JFK well.

I reckoned you were talking about  the Canadian station, Tim. I thought yours and ours were pretty much the same.  We get a lot of Canadian programming here, and at times, I feel it superior to the home grown trash served up to us.
I checked the Reelz TV site and watched a couple of trailers of the Kennedys.  Looks good, but I have never even heard of the station and it is not on the Comcast roster. If  it comes out on  DVD, maybe in Britain, I will most likely  buy it. IF it is worth waiting for.

Now that I've seen all of The Kennedy's, I will say it's worth waiting for.  It's an honest look at this flawed and tragic family.  It seems bad luck and tragedy followed them everywhere.  Even now, look at poor Maria Shriver (a niece of JFK) when Arnold dropped the bomb about his affair and having a child with a household servant on her (so much for Republican family values, Ah-nold).

As for the History Channel, it has become the victim of channel drift, when a channel moves away from its original focus.  Look at the Sci-Fi Channel (I refuse to call it by that stupid new name).  It has wrestling on it.  WTF!?  Can anyone tell  me what in the dead gods of Krypton does wrestling have to do with science fiction (especially when good shows like Stargate Universe get cancelled to make room for said wrestling).

what in the dead gods of Krypton

That's one way to put it and here i'd put it as "by the gods on Mount Olympus (yadda yadda yadda)... i've seen it and it comes right before my show which happens to be Merlin! Though Merlin's season just ended and I have to wait for it to return right now!

I started watching Merlin this past year.  I don't like the story line as it runs contrary to every Arthurian Legend out there, but it is an interesting take on an old story.

Merlin led me to Being Human which I didn't think I would like, but it do!

The problem with SyFy is that one can not license Sci Fi and that is why it was changed.

As to the topic of History Channel - it ticks me off as well.  I think they were running from the "Hitler Channel" reputation and got way off base.

Now there are more of the things that are "History in the making" rather than history.  We've mentioned this before with the advent of Ax Men and Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers (which was an interesting show about how truckers used frozen lakes to carry freight but turned into a competition about truckers who carry freight on frozen lakes) and American Pickers (who really tick me off).  There is even a show on cars with three guys who fool around wrecking already wrecked old cars for the "competition" of it.

Does everything have to become a "competition"?

Once again shows more suited for Spike than History.

Well, I got tired of the "ticked off" business and had a long talk with my cable provider today.  I downgraded our service and so I will pay about $45 a month less and I will no longer be "ticked off" as I will no longer get History or Spike or SyFy!

I have stopped watching them anyway so why pay for something that I just "surf" by when I find out that the programs don't interest me?

My ITech son wants us to have faster Internet and so I will apply some of my $45 savings on the TV to speeding up the Internet connection.

The History Channel will no longer "tick me off"!

Yea for me!

Well that works for you so that's good! I still watch SyFy sometimes... especially if there's an interesting movie or of course Ghost Hunters! I was never really into Spike!

If we didn't have Spike, both History Channels and SyFy, my husband and sons would be bored to death and my life wouldn't be worth living!  ;)

I never like Ghost Hunters because, well, there is a camera crew right in the room with these guys.

Who ya gonna call?  The camera crew!

Well, I think GH is a good show.  As I said, I would love to turn these guys loose in Alexander Palace to see if they would find anything.
