Yeah, it probably won't tell me anything I don't already know, but still it would be interesting to see it.

It is  OK for dramatisations and  such.  Also very colourful.  Perhaps it will be  on DVD ?

I just checked, it is. Russia, Land of the Tsars. from History Channel shop.  About $20.00 US. I do not know if  you would think it worth it.

I remember seeing it on History a long time ago.

I remember a lot of it was horses hooves in the snow trotting in and out of what was supposed to be the Winter Palace.

Some good photos, but much of it was things we already know.

Definitely, Alixz. This has been around the broadcast block for a while.

PBS is now "ticking me off" just as the History Channel can.

I watched a show the other night about the US Forces who went to Murmansk and Arcangel at the end of World War I to help the Whites try to fight the Reds.  I know this is true, but the woman who was narrating said that the Provincial Government in Petrograd fell to the Bolsheviks.

I believe she should have said "Provisional"?

Sloppy editing and very sloppy fact checking.

I don't think they realize just how knowledgeable and devoted we hard-core Romanovphiles are!  ;)

It is not just about the Romanovs, most of the stuff they broadcast is crap. HI  is a bit better, but just because their topics are more interesting. Being a Europhile,  I prefer their documentaries when it comes to history. Especially BBC & ITV.

I recently downsized my cable bill and I lost History Channel among others.

I now have to depend on PBS for my documentaries.  They do have some good ones when they are not pledging.

I recently watched one on Machu Picchu.  There was another on cave temples in Tibet.  I never knew that those existed!

History was bugging me with, as I have said before, Pickers and Pawn Stars and Ice Road Truckers.  They never seemed to have anything interesting just reruns of these shows and Aliens and Ghost Hunters.

I do not know about your local PBS station, Alixz, but ours it much like the commercial networks, hidden  adverts, and  dreadful pledges. I avoid it  just because of that. Unless, they have a good British  mystery show on Sunday nights. Just recently, in bored channel hoping, I came across an Iranian station . They were showing a documentary about Russia & Iran.  I do not understand a word of Farsi, but I watched, fascinated for the whole hour.

A few months ago our station began a new series about Upstairs Downstairs only forty years after the first show ended.  It ran one night and I got hooked only to not be able to find it since!

That series, old as well as new is available on DVD.  I have it sitting here, unwrapped, waiting to be shelved and later, watched. Right after Midsommer Murders and Jeeves & Wooster. I will most likely be dead by the time I get to U&D.

Robert - you and I are of an age.  I don't plan on going anywhere too soon, so you can't either!
