Some time ago, we were discussing Custer's Last Stand.  HI channel had a documentary on last  night   about just that. I wouldnot call it revisionist, but sure shed a different light on the subject.  Still, even though the NA's won the battle, in the end, they got a raw deal out of it.
 After that, another docu on Billy the Kid. Our favourite  US outlaw.  Now, I am not a big US histoy  person, but I found both of these shows  quite interesting. TV still has some surprises, I suppose.

The Ray Bradbury Theater is an anthology series that ran for two seasons on HBO, three episodes per season from 1985 to 1986, and four additional seasons on USA Network from 1988 to 1992. It was later shown in reruns on the Sci Fi Channel. All 65 episodes were written by Ray Bradbury and many were based on short stories or novels he had written, including "A Sound of Thunder", "Marionettes, Inc.", "Banshee", "The Playground", "Mars is Heaven", "Usher II", "The Jar", "The Long Rain", "The Veldt", "The Small Assassin", "The Pedestrian", "The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl, "Here There Be Tygers", "The Toynbee Convector", and "Sun and Shadow".

I was about to say that this show wasn't that old in the general scheme of things, but then it did go on air 26 years ago.

A Sound of Thunder is the short story that the movie A Sound of Thunder was taken from and enlarged.  It also was the basis for The Butterfly Effect.  In the original short story one of the hunters comes back with a "small golden butterfly" crushed into the sole of his boot.

Before I read the whole story I had a Freshman English teacher who used the description of the dinosaur from the short story as an example of descriptive writing.

Looking at the titles, I can see that Rod Serling based many of his Twilight Zone episodes on Bradbury's stories.

Bradbury also wrote I Sing The Body Electric which is the title of a Walt Whitman poem.  That was also made into a Twilight Zone episode about robotic nannies and care givers.

I remember this past year in English class we watched Bradbury's "The Pedestrian" and I'm sad to say that there were only a couple of us who actually enjoyed it. It seems that a lot of kids my age were raised watching crap shows and movies and they don't know what gems they are missing by ignoring the older stuff, the stuff that was actually GOOD. I was raised on things like Hitchcock thrillers, the Marx Brothers, The Thin Man, Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Are You Being Served, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, Monty Python, etc. Kids my age have no idea what they're missing.

Excellent choices, Marty Blackadder is one of my all time favourites.  Along with Absolutely Fabulous. But that me a  bit much for someone your age ?

I don't know. I will have to check it out on Netflix or something. Oh, and I forgot to add My Hero (w/ Ardal O'Hanlon, the other guy who came on later was horrible), The Vicar of Dibley, Waiting for God, and Doc Martin to my list. I watch all these on PBS along with Masterpiece Mystery. I've also started watching 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie' on Youtube. Good stuff.

Don't worry, Marty, my 19 and 15 y.o. sons love them some Blackadder! I got my husband the entire series on VHS for Christmas in 1994 and it's still a family favorite - we just watched one of them the other night. It's true, though, that it takes a while to learn and appreciate British humor sometimes!

Another good series, Last of the Summer Wine which ran from the beginning of UK TV it seemed, and recently  ended it's run. Sort of an elephant's graveyard for  UK actors past their shelf life but very well written and funny. It probably would not sell in the US [Canada, maybe]
 Ab Fab is an acquired taste, I think, but once you get into it,   it is hysterical. It  reruns on Logo channel  now, but I have all the DVDs. Sure tops Lucy & Ethel.

"Absolutely Fabulous".......just that!  It never gets old!

I have to admit to a weakness for my DVD collection of "Keeping Up Appearances" as well!  Hyacinth Bucket (that is "Bouquet" please!) is one of the classic characters in British sitcom I think!

Even "Are you Being Served" - campy but oh so fun!

Yes, Patricia Routledge is a very versatile actress.  She was in a  popular detective show some years back.  Adopted, in a way, a young lad who acted as her assistant in crime solving.
 That seems to be something unique in British actors,  Versatility. Movies,, TV, stage, and radio [still very much alive  in Britain, with dramna and comedy [especially satire] I recently listened to John Barrowman [Torchwood, Dr. Who] and  Dame Judi Dench in  2 different radio plays.
 Which I why  I have BBC Radio 4 on 24/7 here.

Whenever 'Keeping Up Appearances' comes on, Papa and I always say to mom, "Hey, come quick! You're on TV!"

And I completely forgot about Dr. Who. *facepalm* FAIL.

KUA ended in 1995, but it still plays here, at least, on PBS in reruns.
 AYBS end 10 years earlier but had run here since the Truman administration it seemed. It got tired after 4 or 5  watching of all 69 [?] episodes. I think most, if not all of that cast is dead now.

Hi,

Patricia Routledge's detective series was called "Hetty Wainthrop, PI" I think.  It had been an old movie series with Edna may Oliver in the 30's!!
Dominic Monaghan was the young teenager she skulked around with.  He was on "Lost", which I never bothered with.

I think Captain Peacock is still alive;  I seem to remember he was knighted recently.

Without  checking, is that not Frank Thorton ? Last I saw him, he was in Last of the Summer Wine.  I know Wendy Richards, Molly Sudgen and John Inman are all gone.
