I've never heard much about OTMA's dentistry but apparently they had a LOT of fillings.

I think that was pretty common in all social classes before they started pumping flouride into public water supplies.  ;D

Lots! Tooth decay declines rapidly when flouride is added to public drinking water. (Flouride is the stuff they put in toothpaste to prevent cavities.) Before that, cavities were common no matter how rich you were. But I would imagine only the wealthy could afford good quality fillings.

Alexandra and OTMA had fillings made of platinum, if I remember correctly.

Their skeletons were found to have platinum as well as gold fillings, which was only available to the rich back then. It does sound as if it would be heavy, but who knows.  ;D

Platinum is actually a little lighter than gold, but more durable.

Alexandra and OTMA had fillings made of platinum, if I remember correctly.

Actually, it was only Alexandra who had the platinum dental work (a bridge I believe).  The others (except NII) had very well taken care of teeth.  NII being prone to periodontal disease.

Tooth decay was very much on the Empress's mind.  Even royalty didn't eat foods that supported good dental health as well as the cold frigid temperatures of the Russian winters. The Empress knew this and insisted that meticulous care should be kept of her and her daughters teeth.  Much has been speculated whether or not NII didn't go to the dentist, was afraid, etc.  IMO, there simply wasn't a whole lot to do about gingivitis back then, even good brushing isn't enough.   And it IS inherited.

IMO I don't think NII WAS afraid of the dentist.  When his skull was found and identified, there was much speculation as to why the Tsar of all the Russias had such horrible teeth.  He suffered from gingivitis and Periodontal disease. SO did Dowager Empress MF.  The empress placed extreme importance on the condition of her teeth and that of the children. But only so much could be done for poor Nicky.  Back then, not much was know to do once the disease progressed.

oh ok, thank you.

MF had it too?
so that disease must be inherited correct?
