MF had it too?
so that disease must be inherited correct?
Not necessarily. Periodontal disease is just a fancy way of saying gum disease. It can be inherited, but it's fairly common even today, and is usually caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Not that the IF didn't take care of their teeth -- it's just that oral care (particularly home oral care) has come a long way since the turn of the century.

From www.perio.org:
"The main cause of periodontal disease is bacterial plaque, a sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth.

"In the mildest form of the disease, gingivitis, the gums redden, swell and bleed easily. There is usually little or no discomfort. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good oral home care.

"Research proves that up to 30% of the population may be genetically susceptible to gum disease. Despite aggressive oral care habits, these people may be six times more likely to develop periodontal disease."

Here's a bit on their dentistry. From "The Romanovs: The Final Chapter" Pg. 63-64:
Alexadra: "What immediately caught the eye and the attention of Dr. Levine was the elaborate and beautiful dental work in this skull. Two crowns in the lower jaw were made of platinum. Elsewhere in the this mouth, there were elegant porcelain crowns and finley wrought gold fillings. On display was a kind of dentistry developed in the USA at the end of the ninteenth century and subsequently practived in Germany, Alexandra's homeland. The three young women (OTM) also had numerous fillings and similar dental work..."
Olga: "Dr. Levine found fully developed roots to her third molars or wisdom teeth."
Tatiana: "The root tips of her molars were still incomplete."
Maria (or so I believe): "...The root tips of her thrid molars were not completely developed."
"Господь им дал дар по молитвам их размягчать окаменелые наши сердца за их страдания..Мне думается, что если люди будут молиться Царской Cемье, оттают сердца с Божией помощью."

I believe that if there were medical records, they would have most definately surfaced during Anna Anderson's claim. Both sides would have wanted them, because obviously both parties (atleast some of them) believed they were right.
Yes, but remember that the Soviet governement was still very much in power during the height of Anna Anderson's case. I don't believe the Soviets were willing to release much of any information regarding the Romanovs, much lesss personal medical records.

Since the Soviets meticulously catalogued and preseverd the IF belongings including personal diaries and photos, in my opinion, there is much more buried within the Russian Archives.  I don't think they destroyed them necessarily, but deducing from their behaviour concerning the rest of the Romanovs things, I think the records exist but it is doubtful they will be released anytime soon if at all. ;)

There is no proof that any of Nicholas and Alexandra's daughters were carriers like their mother and maternal grandmother Princess Alice or great-grandmother Queen Victoria. None of them ever had children so there is absolutely no way of knowing this.

Yes, there's no way to know for sure unless they could have had children but you can see signs. Olga A. said that she believed all her neices bled more than normal and Maria hemmoraged when having her tonsils removed. Those are signs of carriers.

I'm pretty sure she just had a defective muscle...I read that in someone's memoirs...not sure who it was though, I'll search around for it.

You're right.  Olga A. told Ian Vorres (the author of The Last Grand Duchess) that Anastasia had a defective muscle in her back.

Alexandra and OTMA had fillings made of platinum, if I remember correctly.

In Dead Men Do Tell Tales, Dr. Maples wrote that Alexandra had beautiful platinum crowns.  The girls' teeth were very well cared for, but they didn't have gold or platinum fillings.  He wrote that they had amalgam fillings, and that they were probably fond of candy in life.  :)

I don't think it was anything like IBS. Nervous/sensitive stomach more likely.
