Hermine's daughter Hermine was born on the 9th May 1910 and will be 100 years old next month.

She had outlived all her siblings: Hans Georg (1907-1943), Georg Wilhelm (1909-1927), Ferdinand (1913-1973) and Henriette (1918-1972)

I suspect Wilhelm II, from the grave or from whereever he may be, will make the same statement he made on the 100th anniversary of his mothers's birth...which went something like, 'I wonder why there are no celebrations in Germany recognizing this anniversary?'

It is strange almost ironical that Wilhelm II should marry someone from Reuss elder line. The last ruling prince of Reuss elder line was always against the creation of the second Empire and had fought with Austria against Prussia in the 1866 war. For some reason the principality was not annexed to Prussia as Hannover and parts of the Sachsen. The tiny principality Reuss elder line also voted against Prussia in some matters even after the creation of the second Empire.

Heinrich XXII / Heinrich der Unartige / Naughty Henry was the second last reigning prince and he was Hermine's father! (Of course he was dead by the time Hermine married Wilhelm.) Allegedly it was only the pleading of Kaiser Wilhelm I's brother-in-law, the Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach that saved Reuss Elder Line from being carved up between Prussia and Reuss Younger Line! (The Grand Duchy of S-W-E, being the largest of the Thuringian states, acted as a kind of "big brother", representing most of them in the Federal Council, where each of them had 1 vote. But Naughty Henry (ungrateful, it would appear) chose to be represented by reactionary Mecklenburg-Schwerin (he would probably have wished for arch-reactionary M-Strelitz, but they were represented by M-Schwerin themselves!) in the Federal Council where he created so much naughty havoc!)

Came across an old magazine article from 1905 which stated that Princess Hermine was going to become engaged to Prince Adalbert. Interesting that she became his stepmother instead 17 years later.
