I alsway thought Alix liked to spoil Anastasia and Alexei a litte - not only because they were two youngest, but perhaps Anastasia reminded her of her own little self, when she was called Spitzbubbe.

According to Olga's 1913 diary, the girls did meet other people from time to time. It seems to be true that they had almost no female friends their own age, but there were regular tea parties at Olga A.'s on Saturday afternoons where OTMA socialized and played games with young officers. The Big Pair also went to circuses, plays, ballets, concerts, and so forth.

Aleksei, on the other hand, had a number of boys his own age to play with: Dr. Derevenko's son, Derevenko the sailor's two boys, Ksenia & Sandro's sons, and a pair of young cadets at Stavka.

Nena: I think a fuller version must exist -- turn of the century snapshot cameras weren't capable of this kind of closeup -- but as far as I know an uncropped version has never been published.

You're welcome, too.

I hope we all could see the full picture (because she looks so nice). Maybe, we need some help.
