WOW!! i just realized that Little Ella and  Onor, Georg Donatus and Cecilie died in the same day, just years after!!. Thats incredible and horryfying!

RIP all of them!

Marie 'May' Hesse died on Nov 16 as well in 1878. Yes, it was mentioned in some writings about the family of 2 fateful days--Dec 14 (the day the Prince Consort and Princess Alice died) and Nov 16 (May's death as well as Elisabeth and the Hesse crash). In the case of Alice and the Hesse crash, the tragedies were preceded by just weeks of other deaths--Marie in Alice's case and Ernie's death in the latter. Ludwig's wedding had been postponed by his father's death already and then he had to undergo the brief, tragic ceremony following the death's of almost his entire family while en route. Alice's own wedding was overshadowed by the pall of mourning that hung over her mother's court following her father's death less than 7 months prior.

I'm not into numerology but I did notice that Alice died 17 years after her father's death and that the Hesse crash occured 34 years after Elisabeth's death. 17x2=34. I'm sure numerologists could play with that.

I think that is what people think about the Coburg curse. Almost every branch of that family suffered in a certain way. Alice's branch was especially tragic...

Wasn`t number 17 also an "ominous" number for Nicholas II and his family ? The IF were murdered on the morning of  the 17 th july, Rasputin was murdered the night of 17th december (old style) , the Borki train disaster the 17 th october...

There is a whole belief based upon numbers...the coincidences are really too eerie...

Yes, numerology as I mentioned above. I'm not a devotee of it myself since I AM a believer in coincidence but it is very odd...

I think the Manifesto of October 17, 1905, granting a Duma and a quasi-Constitution, might be included  in this 17 category, since it led , directly or indirectly, to Nicholas' downfall.

The studies of numbers touched upon omens and hidden meanings. Even Queen Victoria believe in special days in the calenderto be dreaded.

I think it is here the question about is Georg & Ludwig aware of their father's homosexuality to be discussed.

Does anyone have a larger copy of the photo of Princess Johanna (1936-39) that's on Wikipedia that they could post? I'd like to include it on the webpage of my upcoming novella set in a universe where Johanna survived.

I need to ask what are the sources that inform us about his homosexuality? I keep finding the info that "Ernie was homosexual" but I have seen no source other than Ducky.

Another source was Peg Hesse, her daughter-in-law.
