I have it, Sarushka.  It's always hard to predict what people will find familiar or unfamiliar in Romanov photographs, but I must say that there were quite a large number of photos that were new to me in this book.  It's 508 pages long, with most pages showing one or more photographs, all of which are black and white reproductions on matte paper -- this is not a glossy coffee table book, though it is quite thick.  Captions are in Russian and English, which is nice, and there is some Russian language text, but the vocabulary is pretty basic to the Romanovs, and I would hazard a guess that anyone reasonably used to picking through Russian with a dictionary will find this easy enough to follow.

Ask me whatever else you need to know that I haven't covered -- and I can scan and send a jpeg of the cover, if you like.

How does it compare to Sunset of the Romanov Dynasty? I noticed the authors are the same. Sounds like the page count and paper quality are similar as well....

Also, I have LOTS of Romanov books -- as far as the photos are concerned, do I really need this one, or are there likely to be duplications, given what I already own? (I know you sort of addressed this already, but I figured you'd have a better sense of it if you had a peek at my collection.)

I purchased this book soon after its release. A smaller section relating to AIII is also provided.

It is a very nice book and highly recommended by me.

It does not compare favorably in my view. There are more photographs and text in "Nikolai II: Poslednii Rossiyskii Imperator".

"Sunset" is its poorer cousin saved only by the color image on the front cover.

Thanks Belochka. I do enjoy info on AIII. Would you say this book is more oriented toward the tsars' family life or politics?

The book is an assortment of images displaying the everyday life that was connected with Nikolai's reign.

Towards the end of the book there is a small portfolio of key personages, including  Rasputin (and his corpse).

The last set of images show the destruction of Petrograd and some of the participants of the 1917 Revolution.

Perhaps the most poignant image is the last one: Nikolai rather gaunt, sitting on a log - now a prisoner in his own home.
