I think it's hard to go wrong, whichever photo you choose! ;) It's really a matter of personal taste. I rather like this one, myself, if you think the cossack uniform is too much:

I'm not sure, but I don't think so. The file isn't dated in my collection, but he looks too young for 1913 to me.
