In the Marble Palace
« on: March 15, 2007, 01:35:24 PM »
I asked some of my friends about this book. We were wondering if the book is out or not, but the website of the Gilbert fellow claims the book is OUT OF PRINT now.  I have some friends and acquaintances who subscribe to his service, but none seem to have heard about this book ever actually being printed?

Mr. Gilbert's publications are fantastic.
I'm sure if you call him he'll get back to you sooner rather then later.
He's a very pleasant person, and is always willing to help.  :)

I agree with you too. Paul is really a gentleman, and I hope one day to participate in one of his tours.

For those interested: You can order a copy of the following book: "In the Marble Palace", by Prince Gabriel Konstanovitschi Romanov.

You can also order this book through: Van Hoogstraten. www.hoogstraten.nl

Gilbert's had a copy of this book on eBay this past week.  I think it went for about $30 plus $15 s/h USD.

I had to laugh.  He sells it on his site and then puts it on eBay, too.

Hmmmmmm.

It was originally published in Russian in the beginning of the 1990s.

It has taken some while, but I find this book very lovely to read. It gives you a lovely insight of this branche of the Romanov family. Don't expect that you find many information about Nicholas and Alexandra and their childeren, was is extrodinary new. But it gives you information about the weddings and death in the family of certain persons of this branch. I think it is a must, because everry book which is written by a member of the Romanov family itself, is better then most of the books who are written by people who have not know them during their times.

i would say that this book is written in a very simple manner, without many elaborations on the political or sociological situation.it shows daily life of the imperial family as well as some important family events.the book contains many details which actually form a full picture of their life.these intimate ,seemingly insignificant details, is one of the advantages of the book.i highly recommend it

I am also reading this book. I agree simply written and banal.
If you do not have good knowledge of the extended royal family, or, a good familly tree nearby, you will struggle with family that is mentioned.  Lots of going to church. Lots of regimental reviews and riding full gallop towards TheTsar.

But
I did find one interesting thing, that I didnot know,  and that is Gabriel was imprisoned  in Gorohovaya Street, along with
GD Nic Mikail/GD Dmitri Constan/GD Paul Alexander/Ioann, Constantine and Igor Constant/Sergie Michael/ GD Elizabeth and  GR George Michael
[ please excuse the shortening of their names] He was released and lived. All the other were murdered.

Can anyone tell me anything about this prison please?
