I found two hard cover copies of Education of a Princess sorting books for my Friends of the Library group and got one for free just for sorting that day.  I had the paperback version but couldn't pass the old hard copy.  I also got lucky and found Imperial Splendour, Palaces & Monasteries from Prince George Galitzine and only gave $8.00 for it.  I have seen it on Amazon for $100.00+.  It is a gorgeous book!  I purchased The Romanov Legacy by Zoia Belyakova for $125.00 and paid about the same for The Jewel Album.  It seems that I got some good deals now.

I have paid a lot more than that for books.  I found a first edition copy of one of Robert Browning's books of poetry for $570 several years ago and also some first or second editions of Churchill's works that I paid a lot for.

I picked up a nice copy of The Romanov Legacy by Zoia Belyakova at a library book sale for $20 which seemed a good buy to me. At least I didn't have to pay overseas postage to get a copy like so often is the case.

Hey Guys,

I was very lucky to find a copy of Romanov Diary on line for $30.00, and Nicholas' Jewell Album at a local second hand bookstore for around $30.00.
I was incredibly lucky. the most I have paid for a book was for teh Costume Ball at teh Winter Palace.  This is a great obsession to have, but it can get pricey, and take up the spare room ;D

My copy of Yakovlev's 1927 book on the Alexander Palace was about $315 including shipping from Russia. (Prior to that, none of my books cost more than $60.)

I've just broken my own record -- a combined facsimile edition of Yakovlev's 1927 AND 1928 volumes on the AP arrived on my doorstep today. $342 + shipping.

But it sure is pretty. ;^)

The pictures aren't quite as crisp as the original editions, but it's very nice overall.

I bought a new hardback copy of the wonderful "Maria Feodorovna Empress of Russia. Exhibition Catalogue. 1997" for just under 7Euro. I was very happy about that price, but I don't know how much it's going for these days.

YIKES. I've only ever seen one original edition for sale (the 1927 volume I bought myself) so I have no idea what a fair price for the 1928 volume is.

an excellent deal indeed. They are going for around $300 when you can find a copy. They are getting quite scarce these days.

Ok, then I'm really happy! I suspected that they would go for much more then €7  but not $300. I wanted to ship some copies to friends when I bought it way back, but we thought the shipping price was too much!!!

Shipping never gets cheaper over time and if you can't buy it via local bookstores you've just got to face the fact and pay the shipping - or don't get the book at all in most cases.  It's a right pain and makes getting some of these more exotic titles really expensive whichever way you look at it.
