I have heard not long ago my family members were put into some quarantine in Vyborg after having left Russia in 1920 (Soviet Union and Bolsheviks) and ended in Finland. This time has never been mentioned in our family even if they seem to have spent there a lot of time... probably even some years as a relative of mine is born there in 1923 and the wife of my grandmother's brother died there in May 1928 when some airplane poured its fuels on her... I suppose she was a British citizen with some Scottish background... At least to me this seems to have been a very strange accident??? So still in Vyborg in 1928 when leaving Russia already around 1920... Today this seems to me more as if they had been kept in some prisonlike conditions... In 1917 Finland was not any more the Grand Duchy of Finland but had become the Republic of Finland as it had been during the years 1809-1917 under the Russian Emperor.
I have never heard anybody talk about this quarantine but maybe once about the reason for it that had been possible diseases coming into this country from Russia. But for years??? Today I checked in Wikipedia Vyborg and now I just cannot understand what is 'The Vyborg House of Nobility' they write 'the Vyborg house of nobility', I wonder what this nobility is and I cannot understand the sentence about it. To me it seems also strange to put these people from Russia in some quarantine in the middle of the battlefields. And I also read about the Vyborg massacre...
I HAVE TO SAY I DON'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING AND NOW I WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THIS 'QUARANTINE IN VYBORG' in the area of not any more the Grand Duchy of Finland but the Republic of Finland! The fact that nothing about this time has ever been talked about could hint at least to me there for sure might have been people whose identity must have been kept secret... and I suppose their identity has not been something from and within the Finnish nobility, but from somewhere else??? And I can understand their lifelong fear for their lives... and the Bolsheviks as all their relatives had been killed in St. Petersburg around 1918-19... And I understand if for a male it became impossible to stay in this country after the 1930s when the country had became the Republic of Finland... and was not any more 'the grand duchy' (= as is written in Wikipedia)... Maybe 'The Grand Duchy' had been an other kind of place... Was it some kind of a prison for some (noble???) people that could not be killed even if some had wanted???
Is there anybody here who knows something about this 'quarantine in Vyborg' or knows somebody who has been there???
