Books on the Yusupovs
« on: April 29, 2007, 05:18:45 PM »
Dear All,
a mysterious book wanders through this Forum: Jacques Ferrand "Les Youssoupoff". Does anyone know were to get that book? Is there a way to find some abridgements on the net?
Best wishes,
Faina

I've heard the book is only in French and is full of rare photos.

The book is rare and extremly hard to find. I've been hunting it down for several months now and no one seems to have it.  :-\ :-\

Yes, it's in French.  Title :  Les Princes Youssoupoff  and Les Contes Soumarkoff-Elston with a foreword by Pr Michel Romanv,  Paris 1991.  I believe it was self-published; therefore, a limited number of copies.  Many of the photos are Collection of Mme Xenia Sfyris. It is a good book to have but it also contains several factual errors.  This is true of any history.  I don't know where it can be obtained now.

I had never even heard of this book until I came up an auction on ebay for it. At that time the bid for it was around 45.oo and I thought about bidding on it, however once the price jumped, I realized I could not afford it.

Has anyone ever heard of this book? Is it a limited released book? Or is it sold at the gift shop at the palace? It had some nice pictures in it and I'm really interested in buying it, if I can find it...

I hope this book becomes more widely available.  It's over $200 on ebay already.

What a fabulous book! And what a shame that at this point it is so expensive.

I have a Russian copy of that book and can say the edition is really wonderful and interesting reading. That's about everyday life in the Yusupov palaces...Very informative.

The book is very good but 200$ is too much, and even 45 $ is not a real reasonable price. Too much. Sometimes I just can't understand people who are ready to buy with such overprice.

I think the problem is that the book is not avaliable around the corner in bookstores so people use it as an excuse to make as much profit from it as possible. I must admit I would have paid $45 but $200? No way.  It does seem very intresting and I really do want to get my hands on it :(

Ok, now it's a crime!!! As of 12:43am October 5th the bidding is at $405!!!! That is a crime!!! I believe Svetabel said that the book priced at $45 is too much, so this is just plain wrong. I wish I could order the book from Russia and pay whatever the price is for the book :(

OK, so hopefully someone can tell more about this.

Well from what I read on ebay it's only about 30 some pages long and again it looks very intresting but I can't help but think that it's overpriced maybe? The starting bid is 34.00, but I must admit that I may be tempted enough to bid. Does anyone have any more information on it? What is it about? Is it worth getting?

Then there was also this book.

I think I may have heard of it before? Is it avaliable at the gift shop at the palace? or am I mistaken?

OMG!!! :o 405 $...some people are really crazy. I am a collector of rare books too, but I never buy such a book (wonderful I know but for example the famous edition of the 1903 ball can be found at 400 $ - and that is much more gorgeous edition) with such overcharge.

I have the first book on Felix and Irina, actually I had posted pictures from it. Really contains some rare photos, and this time (after 405$ on Daily Life of the Yusupovs, OMG) I can repeat that the price is high. In fact the book is thin in soft cover and here in Russia is for 6 $. In case with other countries plus postage.
