I believe it may be Princess Yusupov. The picture did come from her album. But I'm not 100% sure.

Well...Serge was such an authorative figure and does have a cruel streak in him. I don't think he is to be pitied. Ella herself embraced the mythered crown (refusing to leave when there is still time, given safe passage by the Kaiser himself). She died willingly for her people. She should be revered and respected and not pitied.

The photo was taken in August 1902, in Mikhailovka, summer estate of GD Mikhail Nikolaeyvitch. The family gathered for the wedding of GDss Elena to Prince Nicolaos of Greece.

Really? I didn't recognize her at once as in her later photo with Ella (in the 1890s) she had a bit different look.

I know whom you mean - but this is another member of that particular family. Fafka seems to have been a niece of the elder Princess

I don't know where to ask this question but here it goes:

After GD Ella became a nun and took the veil, we can see her in many court functions (total different then her charity work) for the State/Imperial Family. We can see her in many photo's and even in short films (always walking behind the Tsar or her sister the Tsarina) walking the procession with other members of the Romanov family.

What was the reason behind this double function. She became nun because of religous believe. And nuns always go totally different then their past lives before they became nuns. For Ella she sold everything of gave her jewels and palaces away. A sign that she not needed any material, wordly belongings. But in these photo's/films she is still walking with her family, taking duties for the country/IF. Why did she still appear on official court functions?
