Need Information about Prince Boris Scherbatoff
« on: May 18, 2007, 01:16:55 PM »
As my name implies, I am a Park Ranger.  I work in a preserve known as The Princess Place in Flagler County Florida.  Our preserve got its name from the original owner who became a princess when she married her third husband, Prince Boris Scherbatoff.  To help us with the historical interpretations of this property we need to know as much as possible about all of the figures in our history.  We also want to separate fact from legend.

What we do know about Prince Boris Scherbatoff is that he was born in 1872 in St. Petersburg.  He served in the Imperial Foreign Ministry with appointments to Vienna and Stockholm.  He married Angela Mills Cutting Worden in the Russian Church in Paris, France during July, 1923.  Prince Boris was 51 and Princess Angela was 59 at the time of their marraige.  He died in New York, NY on October 17, 1949.  We have been told that he feared assassination.  Because of that fear he changed his name from Scherbatoff to Scherbatow.  He felt uncomfortable and exposed when they visited the Florida hunting lodge.

What we do not know fills volumes.  We do not know if Angela was his first wife or second or third.  Did he have children previous to his marraige to Angela?  What was he a prince of?   Did he have a legitimate claim to the throne?  Was he related to the Romanoffs?  Any and all information that members can supply will be greatly appreciated.

If you want more information about our preserve, visit www.flaglerparks.com and follow the links to the Princess Place.

Ranger, you can find a lot of information on this branch of the Scherbatov family in the memoirs of Prince Alexey Scherbatov, "your" Prince Boris' nephew. Boris and his American wife are mentioned repeatedly, although less than other members of the family. The memoirs are web-published in Russian:

Actually, Henry Cutting was Angela's first husband.  they were married in November 1888.  They had two children before his untimely death in 1892.  Her second husband was John Lorimer Worden, a successful stockbroker and member of the NY Stock exchange.  He was the grandson of the commanding officer of the USS Moniter.  They were divorced in September 1920 due to John's infidelity.  There is no record of Angela ever being married to a man named Moore.

Never mind. It was Kyril Scherbatov who was listed in the wedding. To avoid any more confusion, I deleted the original post.

Mrs. Worden salled from Cherboug for New York on Wednesday, according to relatives, who confirmed the engagement.

Just about every other reference simply mentioned parties they gave or were at, mostly in Florida.

All the other hits came up at your website or with info about the Princess Palace which you already have.
