I believe that they read for education and for pleasure. Also remember that TV and radio had not yet been invented so except for "handiwork" what else was there for them to do?
In the picture of Olga reading to her mother, Alix looks very bad. So many times I have read about her being even in older age "as slender as a wand" I don't see it. She truly looks puffy and unwell in that picture and she is, of course, in her wheel chair.
By the way, I take a book with me wherever I go. When I have to wait in the doctor's office or wait for someone I have transported to an appointment, it sure beats doing nothing. And it is how I manage to keep up on my Romanov reading since I have little time at home.
I am one who would take a book on a cruise! I also take them on planes and trains, although I get motion sickness when I try to read in an automobile.
correct!
i believe that the radio was invented a few years after they died. so yes!
they also, including reading, did stiching, seweing, cross stitch. i remember reading that Alix made a shirt for her dear friend, Rasuptin!
which picture of alix is this?
the one where she is all puffy?
OH ME TOO!!

just in case i get bored or something!
i too get sick in the car... sometimes i'll listen to Audio Cassets of the book instead. like the infamous Harry Potter!
