Thanks for the update on the publishing date.  I looked at a lot of copies, but I didn't notice one for 1976.

Maybe that is why we find the quality of the book to be under whelming  :-\

I also couldn't remember when Jackie O died but I thought it was before 1998.

I am glad to know that there might be reprints, because I usually look to buy a book from the first printing  :)

There are some major errors in captions to the pictures which I would have expected Jackie O (or whoever was really doing the editing) to pick up - a portrait clearly of Maria Theresa, with all the iconography of the Holy Roman Empire is mislablled as the Tsarina Elizabeth Petrovna, while Maria Antonia of Saxony by Mengs is called Catherine the Great (this was a common mistake at the time - I saw it made in other books - and arose from the fact Maria Antonia was portrayed wearing the order of St Catherine - however, there was no reason why the mistake should have been continued in this book - sloppy editing).  I enjoyed the book when it came out because, as others have said before, there weren't many such books around, but these mistakes irritated me and made me wonder if there were others which I didn't have the knowledge to identify.

This book was only published in 1998.  I haven't seen more than the cover, but I expected a lot more from the editor.  Evidently the others who own it did, too.

Actually, In the Russian Style was first published in 1976.

yeah, i was going to say, 1998 sounds very recent. it looked like it was made in the 70's.

I have In the Russian Style[/url]. If you want, I can take some snaps of it to show the outline/look of the publication.

I thought it had some worthwhile pictures, and it's an interesting concept of a book, especially back for when it was published. I don't know much about the quality of pictures or things like that, but I think this book is worth a look. I can't remember much of the text, since I read it awhile ago, but I didn't think it was completely bad, although as pointed out it has some errors.I didn't know it was reprinted in 1998, I've only seen the older edition. I think it's worth buying, but I don't think it's as good as exibition catalog books.
