1917.

That is definitely Olga and Tatiana's bedroom. I have a fuller version that shows the stenciled dragonfly border along the ceiling. (See below)

And I just noticed that what I thought was wallpaper in the photo I posted of Anastasia and Maria is probably a painted or cloth-covered screen. (Like the one behind Maria's right shoulder in Geglov's photo.)  I think I was wrong in my previous post -- that funny-face photo was probably taken in the Little Pair's room at the AP after all. The girls often positioned their cots behind their screens, and the pattern in both of the photos seems to match the screen in this watercolor of the Big Pair's bedroom:

Thanks for letting us know, Sarushka! Anyway, so both those photos were taken at the AP after all. That does fit the reason in the background the walls are same decorations, and plus I think that photo was taken in 1915 the one of Anastasia making silly faces.

Has anyone speculated on what the object hanging from the overhead lighting fixture might be? If so, any ideas?

I've always wondered where that picture was taken. It looks like Livadia to me.

I think that came up once upon a time in the AP threads., but nobody seemed to know then, either. In the film Romanovy: Ventsenosnaya Sem'ya, it looks like a piece of gauzy fabric.

I've only seen photos of Tatiana's room and some of Aleksei's rooms at Livadia.

I never even seen photos of their rooms in Livadia. I was never sure what that object was either. It looks strange. My guess is that it is a oil lamp. I was wondering in the picture of Anastasia making faces was Maria realy sick or she was just sleeping?

A thought that just occurred to me this morning: When was the IF's last visit to Livadia? The photo in question was likely taken in 1915 or 1916, but I'm not sure if the IF went to the Crimea during the war.

Bob made a comment about this photo once. He pointed out the glass of milk beside Maria's bed and said Nicholas was a big milk drinker. The IF had their own dairy at Tsarskoye Selo, and so they had fresh milk every day.

I've always assumed that she was just sleeping.

Sarushka, when they went to Crimea during the war years, they traveled using the Imperial train. So, more than likely, they slept in the train? Wasn't it 1914 that they last visited the Crimea.

What book states that Nicholas was a big milk drinker?

This is kinda off topic, but every picture I've seen of OTMA with a cup near them it's had milk in it.

Holly that is very interesting I did not know! Probably, one of the sister's milk. I figured it would be a glass cup. I knew it was something glassy that photo is in quite bad quality. Thanks for you information Sarushka! In the photo of Anastasia I think that was when Anastasia and Maria was comming home from the hospital. I think she brought those flowers from the hospital.

It wasn't in a book -- it was a comment Bob Atchison made somewhere on the forums a while back. If you do a search on "milk" and/or "dairy" you'll probably find it. ;)

Weren't there any watercolours made of Maria and Anastasia's bedroom?

A total of 12 watercolors were made of the children's rooms, but so far I've been able to locate copies of only 9 of them. Bob Atchison said at one point that he does have one of the Little Pair's bedroom, but I bet we'll probably have to wait for his book to see it! ;)

(FYI: One of the paintings of the Big Pair's room is often mislabeled as Maria and Anastasia's bedroom, but you can tell from the color scheme and the frieze along the ceiling that it's actually Olga & Tatiana's.)
