I did read the book and it was interesting to say the least.......Not certain about the information that is given, but with so many secrets within that family, never say never......

No No No...this is a gossip...a fake gossip.

There were a lot of gossips about her...for example, that her lover was   Count Gyula Andrássy, just because they were friends :/

Hate that rumors, because soill her pure remembrace...

In reading "The Secret of an Empress" I wasn't necessarily convinced she was a daughter of the Empress but it clearly seemed an inside job -- too much detail.

In the "Recollections of a Royal Governess", published in 1916 the following year after the above book, it was interesting that the governess stated she checked in her diary for the date of some incident between little Erzi and her grandmother, and was shocked to see that the exact date and details were mentioned in "The Secret of an Empress".

Here's a photo of Karoline Zanardi Landi with her 2 children.  I can't tell if she resembles the Empress or not?

She resembles Sissi as much as i resemble a young Mata hari . Interesting story tho.

Haha Katenka -- the Mata Hari!   I'll take your word for it since I've noticed you're good with faces.

cheekbones, chin and mouth. If you put a piece of paper over the rest of the face and just expose the mouth and chin........I don't think her mother resembled Elisabeth, but I was surprised to see the resemblence to Elissa Landi. Wonder if there are any pictures online for Elemér Batthyány(sp), youngest son of Lajos Batthyány, who was murdered on Franz Joseph's  directive in 1848 during the revolution.
