Green sitting room
« on: July 08, 2007, 06:34:41 PM »
In chapter 26 of The Life and Tragedy of Alexandra Feodorovna, Baroness Buxhoeveden write that she and Countess Beckendorff slept on couches in the "green sitting-room" during the night of March 13, 1917. Buxhoeveden makes it sound as if this room was part of Alexandra's rooms, perhaps even adjoining the imperial bedroom. Does anyone know where it was?

So far as I am aware, the Empress's Corner Salon was also known as the Green Drawing Room.

I think I read somewhere that the Palisander room was also called the green sitting room?

I couldn't find any reference to a "Green Sitting Room" in the Alexander Palace web site sections on the Formal Reception Room (http://www.alexanderpalace.org/palace/afreception.html) (Corner Salon) or the Palisander Room (http://www.alexanderpalace.org/palace/pallisander.html).

However, the description of the Formal Reception room discusses Cranberry draperies and a Ruby red chandelier, while the Palisander room is described as having various shades of green walls and trim.  This room would be much closer to Alexandra's bedroom and has phones one with a direct link to the Winter Palace. So my vote would be for the Palisander room.

Bob A.  Can you confirm?

It's the Pallisander room. The room was known for its straw green silk walls.
