What was down the basement of the AP?
« on: August 01, 2007, 04:29:39 PM »
Love this website and forum.  This is my first post, so apologies in advance if I do something incorrect.

I've read that the basement of the Alexander Palace contained a boiler room and some dungeons, and had a collection of medieval torture equipment harking back to the "Russian Inquisition," which was more or less contemporary with the Spanish one.  Can anyone  tell us what was down there during Nicholas and Alexandra's time?  Any written references to anything subterranean there?  I saw the posts elsewhere re tunnels -- do we know if they ran under the AP?

Thanks and congratulations on all the fine scholarship that has gone into this whole enterprise.

You should check the thread on the AP itself. There are floorplans. Medievial dundgeons? The place was not that old!  The basement had storage and mechanics to keep the place warm and watered.

Robert, thanks so much for that reference.  The thread was incredibly helpful, with great floor plans.  Did not see any dungeons there, though there were various security posts and guardrooms.

Aleksandrovskiy the palace costs on greater pipes in human growth (from a stone). They are created for drainage. In Great domestic Germans blew up the ground before a palace, for digging burial places.1950-60 year like - one pipe would fall off. The palace from 3 parties is surrounded by water. If all of them will collapse that, most likely dampness a palace will be lost. New constructions in palace street have led to that underground course S.Danini already damp and a underground water basin too all is filled in.
